Is catching with hands catching ?
I jumped in the Arkansas river once and got a paddlefish by hand.
Very cold and a bit of drizzle and seen it angling towards the shore and I estimated a place to sit and be ready to pounce.
Picked the perfect spot as the fish swam right towards me.
5 feet out it was 10 feet deep though.
That was very thrilling.
Cave man style.
I literally LOLed on that. Thanks. :D

If you were there you would be laughing even harder.
Since it was cold and drizzling I stripped down to my whitey tighties and only had a camo poncho draped over me.
When I jumped into the river I left the poncho on shore.

I came out of the river with the fish and holding it up like a trophy and hollered YEA!!!
Standing there in my undies.

There were a couple other red necks in that weather fishing and all gave me a thumbs up.

Fun times.
This is the first time I took a particular friend fishing with me and he was hesitant to go because
everyone he fished with were pansies and complained about not catching or being hungry or cold or something.

He stated:
I think you are a more hard core fisherman than I am.

Of course snagged. Most people know that spoonbill are snagged and don’t bite. And if they don’t they likely would care that I used “catching” versus snagging.
I did catch one inside the mouth legally within the 1000' marker on the Kaw Lake tailwaters.
As they travel through the water with their mouth open to gather plankton, it swam into my crappie jig on 6 lb line getting legally hooked inside the mouth.
Wasn't a big one, just 30 lbs but I had to run across rip rap and finally down the sandbar 1/4 mile or so before it finally swam into some shallow water where I was able to wade out and grab it by the paddle. That was my first paddle fish. It had the line on the spool down to a few turns a couple of times before getting some line back.
All have been snagged since.

I sprinkle creole seasoning all over a chunk of it and grill it over hot smoking wood fire.
Gets some smoke flavor and lets that fat drip out.
Cook on all sides until golden.

DO not freeze it as that different fish flavor gets stronger.
I am not positive but I would bet that fish oil/fat in it is very good for you.

Best to cook it all and eat it fresh.
Now Gar is super tasty.
I really want to catch a gar or two and eat them. I keep hearing about how good they are. I watch some Mexican dude on YouTube who catches tons of them, shows you how to clean them and stuff. I just need to find a good place to catch them. The bottom of overholser has some, but they’re extremely skittish and most are really small.
