I took a little time this afternoon to wet a line in the river. It was pretty slow, but I managed to catch a couple.

Went to the creek anticipating the sand bass run.
not one sand bass but on the second cast with two jigs hooked a 12” crappie on 4 lb line ultralight rig.
getting it up to the rocks I was standing on, a 12-14 lb channel cat decided it wanted it more than me and ate it just as it was getting ready to come out of the water.
yeah, I know, the one that got away thing….
The hook was in the crappie and I had 4 lb line. That fish led me up and down the bank for 30 minutes before the hook came loose. The very next cast got another hook up.
this one took 10 minutes to bring in. Another channel cat, about 4 lbs.

Wind was howling and I wasn’t dressed for the temps dropping so came home.

We hit Tenkiller below Horseshoe Bend on Saturday, thinking they’d at least be at the mouth. Nope! Water was 54 degrees and we finally found them bunched up about 3 miles down the lake. All the baitfish were at 25-30’, and the sand bass were suspended 40-60’ in 74’ of water.

We did manage to catch this pretty blue cat suspended around 25’. I think the bass will be in the mouths this weekend and in the channels next week.
