sorry for your loss, a little over a year ago had to do the same for my little buddy that had been with us for almost fifteen years. he had had cancer and fought it off many times over the last 8 years, it was good that he became an "old" fellow, but it sure was tough doing what had to be done.

I feel your pain bud, it's harder than some people think....I cried like like a baby when I had to have my 8 yr old Schnauzer put down over a year ago. He got cancer and it was slowly eating him up, it killed my parents and me to watch him lose all his strength to even stand. It's crazy how attached we can get to the lil boogers. My fiance and I have 2 lil ones now and I dread the day we have to go through that again. Keep your head up man, he's not suffering anymore.

I know it hurts the heart! Over the last 30 yrs we've had probably 10+ dogs.. most were rescued from the pound. All but 3 were eventually put down due to health problems. Most of them were gotten as pups and lived to be over 13 yrs old. Our 15 yr old dachshund died in her sleep on the foot of my bed. Another older dachshund had a siezure and then died about 15 minutes later while at the dinner table begging for food. It is never easy. But with pound hounds, you give them extra yrs they wouldn't have had any other way. The last one was 1 day away from being put down when we recued her... and she ended up living another 6+ yrs with us. She was blind, missing a lot of teeth, pee'd in the floor... and had a really loving personality. We had her cremated. Her remains were put in a nice little plastic box. My mother loved that little dog so much that she said if her time ever came [Heaven forbid!], she wanted the little dog's ashes put at the foot of her coffin.

Sorry to hear. I have a sheltie approaching 14 and she's showing her age. As long as she can get around without any pain I am happy to have her. She is completely deaf though and I have to go looking for her when she falls asleep outside.

Sorry about having to put your friend down.
Our dogs are like our children since the real ones have left home, and we have been down this road.
Living in the country, we have a small pet cemetary for pets that have lived with us, and a small ground marker on each spot.
