Have you ever bought a gun that the majority of guntubers/influencers didn't like?

I've been a cop, totin' a pistol for 35 years. Throughout my travels I have discovered that "gun guys" are more arrogant and staunchy but also wishy-washy and fickle than women's clothing designers.

What's hot and popular today, won't be in a few months. If something latest and greatest comes out, the rich guys will buy em and show em off and by the time the poor guys (like me) save up enough, or trade around to get one, they've lost their luster and you can't resell it without taking a helluva loss.

That's why I'm a Glock guy. I can still get em on the blue label at an LE discount. They maintain their value and the aftermarket support (holsters, sights, etc) is incredible. Are there haters? Oh HELL yes. Do I care? Oh HELL no.

Love em or hate em, the damned things work when others won't.
I'm glad they were just coming out into the LE world about halfway through my career. I saw a Glock at a range in 1985. The feller took it out of the box, emptied the gun locking the slide and chunked that ugly plastic POS into the dirt and gravel. Then he casually walked over, picked it up, loaded a magazine and popped off all the rounds without cleaning it.

I actually cringed when he threw that gun into the sand and gravel. Man, I babied my 1911 Springfield. His G Lock looked like hammered Sh!1t. But it worked. I have never shot one or even handled one. Just not my cup of tea.

Most gun Youtubers have little to no firearms training and experience to make an informed recommendation and/or they are compensated financially to say everything is great.

Sootch00 is a great example of this. He seems like a nice guy and his videos have high production quality, but I have never seen him review a gun he didn’t love. Lots of use of words like “game changer”. He also pushes bad body armor, that when I did the math on how much he must make in referral kickbacks it’s in the six figures.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a tough industry where gunmakers won’t send you pre-releases to review if you ever say anything even slightly negative, but that results in having to compromise your morals to recommend something less than optimal that someone may rely on to save their life.
That was the gun You Tuber, he was reviewing the little surplus Zastava .32 auto M70 pistol (looks like a Tokarev that shrunk in the wash).
When he shot the little pistol, it looked like he was firing a black powder semi-auto (starts around 0:22 seconds in the video).
Lots of smoke with every shot - he said later in the video he hadn't cleaned all the grease out of that surplus Yugoslav pea shooter before firing it.

Kimber caught a bad rap several years ago. I mostly get why, but there are a lot of owners out there who never have any problems with them. I have three and they are all great pistols, and haven't exactly been babied along the way. Youtube along with most of the internet hate them. I don't care.

My contribution to this thread was the fact that I recently bought a single stack 1911 in 45 while the experts say I need a 2011 in 9mm

But - I love those two 1911s so far, and I have carried them ——- But the real constants in my life are the Glocks - there’s always one nearby regardless of what is on my belt at any given time

Aw heck, I bought a .40 Sig 229 with a DAK trigger within the last year also - that’s how close I follow the trends. (Although I still might purchase the parts to re-convert it back to the standard da/sa configuration- it’s a tricky little beast to master with the dak

Hey the Mini worked for Platt and Maxis!!! and at 50 yards a 5 MOA rifle shoots a 2.5" group! For Rick's use it's just fine.

The "A" Team fired 1M rounds with Mini-14s and NEVER hit anybody.

I decided I didn't want 1.
Wishing I bought a dozen, now.

I buy what I want. IF it happens I no don't like it / no longer want it. I sell it. Hasn't happened but a very few times.

Yep interesting. I wound up with a $70 Hi-Point JHP .45 to try to help a guy that was tipping over the edge several years ago. Several guys were posting how useless it was about it on this site. God afoul ugly, way too heavy to even carry in your hand very far, but the damned thing shoots accurate and repeatable and it has yet to jam. I have not tried running over with my truck. At least yet.
I have let a lot of people shoot it. You can't blame limp wrist to shoot it and have a problem because even little ladies who either can't hold it up or are dead on target and it cycles because of its own weight. I think I will keep it for a meet and greet at the doorway in case I might need a visual effect. And like others, AR-15s are fun to shoot, but I think I will keep my mini-14 for sentimental reasons.
Yep, his site is a composite of a lot of thoughts. Humm Never thought about going to U-Tube to get an opinion of what I might or might not like. I just kinda trust my own instincts.
Thanks for posting.
