I'm surprised at the number of people who think training should be *required*. . .sorta like we have to get training before going to church, or writing a book, or voting.

Is that uncomfortable? Yes, sometimes it is. I don't like people attending militant Muslim mosques, or writing books filled with hate and bigotry. . .but a right is a right is a right.

Playing devils advocate here (sort of):

Owning (if legally allowed) and shooting a gun in a legal location is a right....no training required. Concealed (and open) carry is a privilege just like having a drivers license....that's a fact.

Do you not have to take an exam in order to legally drive a car? Yes you do. Do you absolutely have to drive a car? No.

Does it better suit your lifestyle and safety of going to work, grocery store, church, soccer practice for your kids to (insert driving a car or concealed carry here)? Well, that's up to you. Either way, you have to go through the legal motions to do one or both of these things.

Just some perspective.

For what its worth, I'm glad the bill passed.

Some horrible perspective.

First of all, driving isn't protected by the Constitution. Carrying a firearm is NOT a privilege. Period. Read the Second Amendment. It's pretty clear on this.

Second, you don't have to take an exam to drive a car. You have to take an exam to drive a car on publicly funded roads.

Should people get training with firearms before they decide to carry? Absolutely. Should it be mandatory before they can exercise their right to the 2-A. Not a chance IMO.

Why not free speech classes, or governmental petitioning procedure classes before you can exercise the 1-A?

Thats a scary thaught. S O a couple ccw classes. That is the only instruction some folks have ever had with a gun. I think that some should be required to get further training before getting a permit.

I will second that by about a bazillon. GC used to make fun of me when I came home from running those classes wound up tighter than an 8 day clock. Then he came and sat through one. :bigeye:

Ever try to get all over town without putting a tire on publicly funded roads? That's what I thought.

So, what you're saying (if I dont have a drivers lic.) is that I can at least drive my car in my driveway that's 25 feet long.....cool.

What happens if you're searched and are carrying a loaded pistol on you without a CC permit (which requires a license)? Are you not breaking the law?

What happens if you're pulled over going down I-35 and don't have or ever had a drivers license? Are you not breaking the law?

I didn't make the laws BTW.

What is your point?

My point was meant for Jack T. His logic was comparing the fact that one doesn't need "training or a license" for free speech or religion, so why would one need it for CC...and how it shouldnt be required for CC.

My point was that they arent the same thing. Sure, you can own all the legal guns you want...knock yourself out. Hell, I know I do. However, laws are in place that WE have to abide by to be in good standing with law. If you don't like the laws, elect someone that will change them. We DO have that right.
