They need to open that up more, and establish ventral drainage, or it's going to re-occur. (IMHO)

We've got a calf that's been backed up before and split a hole in its right hip where the shat comes out of it. Got him unclogged, and have had him stitched up twice but he keeps re-opening it. Uneasy seeing crap flowing out the side of a calf

I've got performance cow horses, more than I need, but really still not enough, and I don't know wtf caused that, but I don't want any.

Have seen similar things from a site reaction to an injection. I am sure they aced him, or maybe a touch of rompun.

The horse will be fine.

They are amazingly resilient, as long as you aren't jacking with their legs. For all the abuse they can take from the top of their legs up, from the top of the legs down, they are as fragile as anything around.

I'd be surprised if he wasn't able to be ridden in 7-10 days.

One of the commenters on the actual web page said it was likely a pilonidal cyst. These are something people get at the base of their tail bone, it's caused by a build up of in-grown hairs. I know a couple different folks that have had them. It's commonly called "Jeep Driver Disease."
