Those of you constantly thirsty need to get your blood glucose checked. Seriously.

I've had Type 1 Diabetes (the insulin kind) for almost 20 years. Nothing tells me I'm out of wack quicker than insatiable thirst.

Same here, since 94'. Was kind of thinking the same, but I drank a gallon and whizzed a gallon every 15 minutes until I/docs figured out what was going on.

Aside from any alcohol consumption, water is the only thing I drink. No coffee, tea, pop, etc... Growing up I would drink tea or pop 99% of the time, then later I started drinking coffee. Eventually, I decided to cut the pop, so it was just water, tea, or coffee. About a year ago I decided to cut the tea and coffee.

It's a miserable cycle. Drink, pee, drink some more, pee it all out and then some.

Even if you're not a diabetic, higher than normal levels of glucose can tear you up. Extremely tough on your heart, eyes, circulation. Lots of people have insulin resistance and don't know it.

I drink constantly during the day - black coffee, water, Gatorade. Rarely drink a Coke. Worked 14 years in Batch/Furnace at a glass plant.(think molten glass, Hell) That does something to you - all my ex co-workers are like me - almost immune to the heat. I sweat profusely, and when I run during the summer, I pre-hydrate as much as possible.

I do sweat quite a bit myself. I've had recent blood work and they checked things I didnt know they could check. Glucose was good. I drank a far share of beers last night so I am hitting the water extra hard this morning, coffe on one side and water on the other. lol
Also I think consuming salt is important to retaining water. I used to roof houses and was always told to eat salt tablets so the water I drank would stay in me longer. I dont know if that was an old wives tale or not but I do use plenty of sea salt on my food.
Oh and Ridge, I am 6'-2" and 230 lbs and I dont consider myself obiese, a little heavy because I have a gut but I also am overall a large guy. My prime weight is 210.

I drink on average 64 oz of water or more. That's two Nalgene's bottles worth. I'll drink Coke if I go out, even though I know I shouldn't, and I also drink a lot of Milk.

At least a pot of coffee a day... sometimes 1.5 pots. Standard Walmart Black & Decker. Coffee of choice is Starbucks Sumatra fresh ground.

At least a 20oz coke... either Dr Pepper or Mountain Dew depending on the mood, but no other options satisfy... if I eat out I can easily go through 2 liters per meal (32oz cup plus a refill).

2-3 glasses of green/black/mint or Earl Grey tea.

1-2 glasses of Scotch.

Grandmother still alive born in 1921 hates water she is on Zero meds!!
Her dad who lived to be 94 and smoked lucky strike non filters until he died hated water also.
No cancer no other issues.. just one day did not wake up. Their drinks were coffee juices and milk.

I hate coffee and seldom drink tee or pop,I drink a lot of water and love juices and milk, I will probably live to 50 and kill over.

Did your soda drinking friends keep up with you guys during the hike?

No. The guy could have, the girl couldn't... but she chain smokes and he doesn't and I'm pretty sure that made her struggle more than anything. This was at 11-12,000ft with rapid elevation gain. I Imagine it hurt. Women do no maintain fitness as easily as men do either.

We're all still young. You should be able to do most anything to your body in your 20s and feel OK. The next few years will tell the tale. I know had to adjust my habits in recent years because I already feel my body getting less resilient. They haven't changed anything.

My water habit has been around since I was 16-17. Before that I drank mostly juice. Even when I drank pop all the time as a teen/early 20s....I still drank a ton of water as well. I understand heavy pop drinkers like my friends more than the folk here who drink almost no semi-refreshing liquid. That blows my mind. If I could only have coffee and beer with no water I'd stop drinking coffee drink a beer in the morning and be begging for an IV in 3 days. I can't touch coffee in the morning before a glass or two of water. Dehydrates me worse than anything, alcohol comingin second.
