I do suggest you get a good home BP checker and use it frequently just to keep an eye on it.
I have both a manual rig and a battery operated one. I left the batteries (Duracell) in too long and they leaked, but didn't damage anything (just a nuisance to clean up). Hoping to rig a power supply for it and ditch the batteries altogether.

The manual one is a pain to use, mainly because the cuff is barely large enough for my arm. Between that and trying to hold the stethoscope in place and still squeeze the bulb... the frustration alone probably drives it up a few extra points. :D
