A .223 / 5.56 using 62-64 gr bullets will get the job done. Hogs are not hard to kill, occasionally you will find one that is too stupid to know it is dead and run a bit.
The Ruger is a good AR. The Mini-30 is an awesome hog shooter.
Don't overlook a classic. The Remington 742 / 7400 / 4 models are available in .243, .308, .270, .30-06 and other awesome rounds for hogs. They have 10 round mags available, too. A 10 round mag dump of .30-06 WILL put a smile your face.
