Glad to see this thread revived. Train up. Practice, practice, practice. Then practice some more.

    Damn, I need some practice.

Sign up for a couple tours in Afghanistan, the skills you pick up just trying to survive in that environment will leave you both prepared & paranoid enough to not get caught with your pants down.

    Worked for me.

Well, if one of my guns were a Taurus, it would be a paperweight.

My 2 cents..With very careful chosen words, adept body language and eye movements have many a wise and peacemaker made a volitile situation peaceable as far as their part... but there is that thing in scripture about there being a time for everything. Prepare for all things but hope for the best. Hence with the right heart you will be like the men of Issacar who knew the times and knew what to do.

I have been in violent encounters both lethal and non-lethal. Training in the most realistic way you can will help you when you need to react instinctively. You WILL react in a similar manner to the way you train under very high stress situations.

A great read for those who have or have not been through these situations is ON COMBAT by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. He explains what happens to the mind and body during combat situations, and it is far from what Hollywood would have you believe!!!
