To me, the most important characteristic of coffee (assuming it's packaged using quality beans to start with) is that it be freshly brewed. I really dislike the taste of stale, hours-old coffee. I've tried a bunch of brands of K-cups and finally settled on Starbuck's Pike Place or Starbuck's Sumatra as my favorites. Every time I have another cup, even if it happens to be hours later, it's a freshly brewed cup, and at Sam's Club the cost is about 45¢ per cup when purchased in 72-cup boxes. If I brewed a full pot of drip coffee every morning, 80% of it would be poured out at the end of the day. I also like an occasional cup of Earl Grey tea, and the K-cup maker does a fine job of instant very hot water for tea bags. You can even buy Earl Grey in K-cup format, although that would be for sure a waste of money compared to bags.
Out of several k-cups that I tried the Pike Place was my favorite for black coffee.

Yea sometimes I don't think the filter inside the k cup pierces cleanly. Once in awhile you'll have grounds everywhere. It's still worth just popping one in and hitting a button for a cup.

I used to be a full on coffee snob, grinding my own beans to use in the Bialetti right before brewing. These days I'm all about easy, but still can't stand Folgers after drinking it for 40 years. I'm hopelessly addicted to good fresh coffee over commercial discount mass produced stuff. If I don't start the day with the good stuff, it ain't going to be a good day.
I still am, fresh beans from Hoboken coffee in Guthrie, ground fresh each morning, and an Aeropress. One good cup at a time. From start to finish about 5 minutes.

However, talking to a nutritionist, they mentioned that the K cups are extremely prone to getting mold inside them and she calls them cancer cups. Just something to be aware of and research on your own.
Like with anything, cleaning is essential! For people that use fountain drinks, are you sure they clean every nozzle and/or parts that are used? I love at Freddy's, how they have a tray that holds every part of the ice cream machine when they clean their equipment.
