Another tip, avoid caffeine after about 10 AM, the half-life of caffeine is 6 to 7 hours. Meaning if you have a cup of coffee at 4 PM, 50% of the caffeine is still attached to receptors in your brain preventing sleep at 10 PM.

The reason I mention this is sleep, should be a high priority for you. Studies have shown two groups of people put on the exact same calorie restricted diet, but one group getting a full eight hours of sleep, and the other having their sleep restricted to even just 6.5 hours resulted in dramatically different results. The group that got less sleep, lost most of the weight in lean muscle while the well rested group lost most of the weight in fat.

Not to mention all of the other benefits sleep provides, almost no one can perform anywhere near their best on less than 7.5 hours a night. There is a very small percentage of people who can, but if you think it’s you, you’re probably wrong. You’re far more likely to be struck by lightning statistically speaking, then be in that group. Like drunk people that can’t tell how drunk they are, sleep deprived people don’t realize how poor their performance is compared to if they were well rested.

Well, therein lies the rub. My sleep schedule is all over the place. A typical week for me is...days off, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Then I'm up all day Tuesday where I try to catch a nap bfore going to work at 10pm until 8am. I do this on Wednesday and Thursday as well. Then, on Friday morning at 8am, I rush home, catch about 4 hours of sleep and go back to work at 3pm and work until 1am Saturday. So yeah...

I've been big my entire life. Hell, when I was born I weighed in at over 10 pounds. By kindergarten I was wearing a mens size 38 jeans and an adult XL shirt. Yeah, it's been an issue my entire life.

I never really thought I had a problem with food. I mean, I love good vittles, always have. But I didn't think it controlled my life. Maybe it has. Maybe my head is in the sand. Who knows.

I weigh myself every Monday morning. It usually goes up and down by a few pounds week after week. This morning I weighed 456. That's not the most ive ever weighed nor is it the least.

I bought these scales on Amazon. They weigh up to 600 pounds. I decided to purchase them after my last hospital trip, where I weighed in at a whopping 483 pounds. I suffer from Edema. If you're not familiar with that, it's when your blood doesn't circulate properly and your legs swell because of that. Usually to the extreme of small blisters forming and your skin bursting open.

Well, back on July 6th of 2021, mine did just that. So badly that they became infected and sepsis set in, causing me to go into septic shock. If you've never had septic shock before, trust me - you don't want it!

I can still remember it being in the 90s that day and I was sweating profusely while covered up to my chin with a blanket, literally freezing to death! I'm talkin' teeth chattering, body shaking, complete misery. I thought I was a goner. I spent 3 days in the hospital, on an IV drip of an antibiotic strong enough to :censored:ING kill a horse.

Anyway, back to today.

Like I said earlier, I can usually drop a few pounds just by cutting out soda, candy and other sweets, but a few pounds just ain't enough. I've tried every diet imaginable from Atkins to Keto, high carb, no fat, blah be blah be blah.

My son in law has been using the Zepbound injections and he has lost close to 60 pounds in about 2-3 months. He claims all you basically gotta watch is your starches and sugars.

So today I started the same thing. Hopefully it'll work. I'm gonna miss bread, pasta and taters. And I reckon I gotta go back to black coffee as well. God knows I've tried everything else. Why not this? Wish me luck!

So sorry for the novella. :sorry1:
@ Glock ‘em down

How’s it going after a year? I was digging around OSA gathering weight loss/diet info, and found this year old thread. Just asking if you’d like to share update.

Well, sadly there are no major "results." to speak of. :rolleyes2

I still weigh about the same. The edema is still going on. The gout still rears his ugly head from time to time and my rheumatoid arthritis is worse than ever.

I can blame it on the Zepbound, but that's not the truth. Even though I stopped taking it in March, because the supply and demand drove the prices up and my insurance wouldn't pay for it anymore. I could've paid for it out of me own pocket. But $65 per shot was a little out of my budget.

When I ran out towards the end of March, I weighed in at 442. Last Monday when I climbed on the scales, I was at 471. :faint: That wss the most I weighed this year.

The long and the short of it is, I gave up. I figured I would just stop eating bad stuff, which I kinda did, but my biggest problem is immobility. I sit on my dead ass way too much.

I did stay out of the hospital all year, so there's that. Maybe I can whip this thing...I dunno. :grumble:

I appreciate everyone's concerns, cheers and advice. Thank you.

Here's hoping I can make something happen in 2025! :thumb:

You got it man. Most important thing is setting realistic goals. Take the small wins!

Try eating nothing but steak, (any kind of beef or wild game) and lots of eggs. No potato unless its a sweet potato, no pasta or bread, just meat and vegies. If you want a spam sandwich, slap it between 2 or more, pieces of green leaf lettuce, a slice of tomato onion and sliced avocado.
The occasional small portion of long grain wild rice is ok too. Do that religiousely for a week or 2 and I bet you see a loss and feel better.
Cut all sugars out to, that crap kills.
ETA, forgot to mention fish/seafood and chicken are also your friend.

Is that the carnivore diet? I thought about trying that, but I live in a house full of carb lovers. But I think I'm gonna try it.

Frankly, I could probably live without most breads, taters and pasta. I'll miss mac n' cheese, but I'm sure I'll get over it.

As for sugar? I can say no to sweets and snacks if it's not in my house but the holidays have ruined me. Hopefully all this crap will be gone soon.

Then I gotta work on my coffee situation. I usually only drink coffee on the weekends, but we have one of those Kerug coffee makers at work and I do have a cup from time to time with cream and sugar. I could go back to drinking it black, but...yuk.
