His theology doesn't line up with the bible but the issue is his problems.
We are ALL fallen but in pastoral positions you shouldn't get more chances. You can be forgiving but I believe fallen pastors should not teach again. Just my opinion.

If you remember the grizzly details of this curious case, you might also remember the contemporaneous song lyric: "Now your mom threw away your best porno mag (Busted)"
I'm not making a judgment here, and if he's learned to preach the word, that's good for him and it's good for him that hath ears.

Still, I wonder less about how he explained it to the congregation than how he explained it to the police. No offense.

I think we can all agree that he should never have been placed in the...er, position to explain it to the police in the first place. It's like he was living in a very repressed society in Louisiana in the 1980s for some reason and through no fault of his own.

When Jim Baker and Jimmy Swaggart were young pastors they were in churches in the same small town. They would ride their bicycles to church and see each other on the way to church each Sunday.

One Sunday Jimmy was walking. Jim asked him what happened to hie bicycle. Jimmy said that he thought one of his congregation had stolen it and it grieved him greatly. He had no idea what to do. Jim gave him the idea of preaching a sermon on the ten commandments and to go really heavy on though shall not steal. Jimmy liked the idea.

The next Sunday Jimmy had his bicycle back. Jim asked him if the idea worked.

Jimmy said that it did kind of work. He told Jim that when he got to thou shall not commit adultery he remembered where he had left his bicycle.

Look at Oklahoma. A so-called Christian state with some of the highest rankings of meth and prescription drug abuse, divorce, teen pregnancy, child abuse (both physical and sexual), domestic violence, etc.

A little less beating of the Bible, and a little more living by its teachings, might take us off those shameful lists.

This is exactly what I disliked about the man twenty years ago. He stood before the faithful everyday flappin that big ole Bible . He went a long way toward maintaining the society that tied the stone around his neck.

Years ago I was a driller and I had a hand that had grew up in Tulsa. His father was one of the few armed IRS investigators. They were actively trying to catch Oral Roberts. My hand claimed that Oral Roberts and his two sons were profitting from drugs and prostitution in the Tulsa area.

They could funnel all kinds of cash through the church as cash donations. It must have been fool proof. According to my hand Oral Roberts Jr. did not commit suicide as was made public. He was killed during a drug deal that went bad.

The other son addmitted to being a drug addict and went to rehab. My hands Dad was a retired army officer and got the job with the IRS because of the preference points given to military retirees.

One thing common with most TV pastors is that they teach the gospel of prosperity. That does not come from scripture. It comes from the logic of men that are justifying being rich so that spending the titheing of their flock for personal gain is accepted. They claim that "God wants us to proper and be happy".

While working through college at a custom furniture shop, we built some furniture for Oral Roberts Florida home. The stuff we built was very high end and we only did work for interior decorators. There was a heart shape lounge chair and ottoman, and a sofa. The chair was bright red leather and the sofa was purple leather. It was the cheesiest stuff we built the entire time I worked there.

I never looked at the family quite the same afterwards.
