I used to live with my grandparents in NE MS, not far off of Hwy 82 before you get to Starkville.

How are things down your way?

Mostly fine. The big issue has been the statue on campus, and a bit regarding the one on the square. The issue ramping up is the state flag. But mostly it's been peaceful.

I never knew anything abut Juneteenth until recently but I'll take a raincheck this year. I don't think they'd appreciate me being there anyway.

I wish they could keep the juneteenth separate from all the BLM stuff going on, but of course they can't.
The crowds across the country on the news were all about BLM. I'm not so onboard with BLM.

I love this logo. A day to celebrate the ending of slavery and they put a black power symbol on it. Sadly many that will “celebrate” this want to see white people enslaved. And instead of most blacks being thankful for what Juneteenth means they will use it to protest and talk about how oppressed they are and that our country hasn’t made any progress on racial equality.

Earlier in this thread I commented that the logo with the black power fist offends me; it seems confrontational to me, harking back to the black panther days.
How about a black hand shaking a white hand? Signifying unity and equality?

It doesn’t offend me but it makes me mad. That symbol signifies “black supremacy”. That is what many in the black community support.

I don't have a problem with this. I'd never heard of it until now.
I think abolishing slavery is a good thing, and it's ok for the whole country to celebrate it.

Juneteenth is when slavery was abolished in Texas.

BLM is just a reincarnation of the Black Panthers from the 60’s.

and the armed black panthers sparked fear in folks in california, which led to the Mulford Act and more gun control courtesy of Reagan.
