People now days only want to work 8-5, Monday thru Friday. Anything outside of that and you're intruding into their "ME" time. It's easier to whine then do something about it. What we need are more government handouts!!!

It's not that easy for some of us. I work 0700 to 1530 most of the time, but 2 or 3 days of the week there is an emergency and I might work until 1800 or later without any kind of notice. How in the world can I get a second job?

I'm not complaining or whining, I would work 2 or 3 jobs right now if I could to make Christmas better for my kids but darn if I cant. I'm just trying to put it out there that not everyone has the option to work a second job because their first job is too unpredictable.

Edit: I also want to say that I'm down $8 bucks an hour from 2008 still, although I'm doing better than the $12 I was down in 2009.

I have 2 openings for semiskilled positions. In the Spring, I'll have another opening. My employees make $750-$1200 a week, depending on their work ethic. I haven't had a decent application in months. Where are all these people who can't find a job??? If I was willing to hire felons and tweakers, I'd have all kinds of applicants.

My retirement account has almost regained everything it lost in the crash of 2008.

I'd say the economy is improving, albeit slowly. Slow progress beats rapid decline every time. I think some of you are creating a self fulfilling prophecy because you can't stand the thought that things are getting better on the watch of our current administration.

Have you thought about finding some kind of side work that you could basically do for yourself at your own pace to make some money? I do some stuff at my own pace and when I have time that pays me extremely well for the hours I put it.

Find something that you enjoy doing, then look for things related to it that you could do to make some side money...

When I used to be heavy into car stuff, I polished parts for a little side work. Even did some performance work for people, as I could and at my pace...

What I'm getting at is that you dont need a "real" 2nd job that you'll be tied down to...Find something you like, and go from there...

The latest one I'm hearing in Austin is: "Since we're having such a population explosion here, we need to double the price of electricity." They literally voted to DOUBLE the price of electricity!

AUSTIN — The Texas Public Utility Commission will consider doubling the cap on wholesale electricity prices in hopes of convincing generators to build more power plants.
The commission is likely to approve the increase on Thursday, four months after it approved a 50 percent boost.
Chairwoman Donna Nelson says raising the price is necessary to encourage more plant construction and ensure enough power is available during peak periods.
Companies have complained that they are not getting paid enough for their investments in power plants, and generating capacity has gone down. But consumer groups worry a wholesale increase will trickle down to monthly household electric bills for most Texans.
The latest proposal would raise the cap on prices from $4,500 per megawatt hour to $9,000 a megawatt hour.

They're "worried" an increase will trickle down to customers?!? WTF?!? Do they think we're THAT stupid? What happened to more customers equaling more income?

Free market at work ... Texas deregulated the electric market ... market forces will drive prices lower due to competition ... or so was stated ... no regulation needed to protect consumers in texas anyway. just dam glad oklahoma didn't deregulate, been working business side of the industry for almost twenty years (saw the fiasco in the norhteast caused by dereg, and watched california play out). one thing you can always count on is that somewhere someone will try to "game" the system. guess what is happening in texas now.

texas is even more ripe for gaming, only two dc connections into ercot. hard to bring outside power into texas.

sometimes free market doesn't work for consumers, it is a two way street, sometimes the free market works for wheover will game that market best.

Mechanic and tow truck operator. I require a very specific skill set and will not accept anyone who has driver license issues, spotty job history, or drug use. Someone has to be willing to to things the way we do them and not be a princess. Hard work, but well rewarded.

Another member here works part time for me on weekends. Wish I could get him full time.

is it just me ??? I see the illegals as the problem with "short pay"....12 million are working the jobs previously held by citizens....especially the construction trades....if you could actually get a president to defend our borders and deport--permantly--those law breakers-- we would have all those jobs available at significantly higher wages....no unemployment and higher pay and all that needs to be done is enforce the law....there doesnt seem to be a problem enforcing laws on citizens..bring the troops home from the middle east and station them on our southern border...if the cartels want a war like they are pursuing in mexico....let em try a war with the USMC and see how they like that....that would keep all that money here at home as an additional economy stimulus....
