For those stating incandescent should go the way fo the dodo,... show me 1 CFL flood style bulb that lasts longer than the incads...

I have a house full of 65W floods in recessed lighting. The original incads only lasted 6 months, but the CFLs only lasted 1.5 months (and this is most brands, GE, Sylvania, Some Chinese company, etc etc).

LED costs too much. To replace all the recessed lighting with recessed LEDs in my house, I am looking at $7000.

You're welcome. :P

Banning light bulbs is not the answer. I have clear fixtures that only look good with clear bulbs in them.

I love my dimmers - CFL's hate dimmers and LED's still aren't there yet.

I have Compacts in 85% of my house. The others are halogen or LED.

You can get really good LED's for $70 (floods) and up. BUT they are rated for 50,000 hours. I can get 10 compact fluorescents floods at 8,000 hours for that price. they have their advantages - hard to reach places, etc.

You can get halogen versions of normal lightbulbs and floods that are more energy efficient and look better than normal incandescent bulbs.

CFL's have their place
LED's have their place
Induction lighting has its place (probably better than LEDs)
Halogens have their place
and incandescents have their place

Ok so you got my total conversion down to $3k. Thats still more than I want to spend on a 4 year old house.

And someones gotta help a brutha. The whiter the light the higher the number? Might replace the one over my sink and my directional with these to test them.

Yes, the higher the number the whiter the light up to a point, then it starts going purple. Your typical incandescent "warm" white is 2700K.

I have had very good luck with the CFLs. They have lasted longer than regular incandescent bulbs, and I don't worry as much about leaving them on. I also prefer the light they put out, as incandescents usually look orange to me.

CFLs give some people migraines. What are these folks supposed to do? Ever had a migraine? They put me right to bed in the dark and I ain't moving. So if one can't work because of a condition like this do they get disability? Thank God they don't bother me but some aren't so lucky.
