About probably around 40+ years ago I worked for a technology company that was leading the industry in performance and quality. Everything was made in the USA and assembled in USA factories.
The fuzzies in corporate wanted to move manufacturing to the pacific rim (Singapore at the time) to save cost. We felt quality would suffer and we were sure cost wouldn’t drop enough to cover increased shipping cost.
So we did a study to see. Singapore had been manufacturing our old tech platforms products that we sold in the Asian market so there was a facility there. We set up identical lines to see. The American facility far out produced with a higher quality and significantly lower cost. Not even close.
Guess what? They moved every established product line over seas. Only manufacturing after that was start up early release.
So you got to ask yourself why?
