Unless you're engaged in illegal activity such as downloading music or movies from p2p networks or something similar I wouldn't worry about your IP address. However, I'm no conspiracy theorist, but the FBI does keeps tabs on internet traffic. Even as far back as 1997 when they deployed the "carnivore software". Also, if I remember right, Intel on their Pentium 3 chips, wrote in a unique I.D. number for each chip that was sent along with your internet traffic. So even if a person had gotten rid of that computer it could still be traced back to them with the IP address and the Pentium chip ID.

I found a pic of your "friend" - he should stay off the internet.

I don't say anything here I haven't drunkenly yelled at passing cars and pedestrians from a street corner a thousand times in past years. I'm not worried.

The IP address just points them in the right direction. They still have to find your location and confiscate your computer before they can prove any wrong doing. If you stay within the law you have nothing to worry about. Heck I even use my real name and say what town I live in. Wouldn't be real hard for almost anyone to locate me. Have nothing to hide so no reason to be paranoid.

Actually the IP address points them to your service provider. Guess who has your billing information?

Case in point....http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/471

In short the FBI used IP addresses to arrest child pornography purveyors because they clicked a hyperlink. They then secured search warrants and arrest warrents because of IP addresses.

True there is nothing to be paranoid about IF you're staying within the law. Thats why I find it somewhat funny that people are openly looking for torrent sites on a public forum.
