I went through this a year ago when a storm knocked down our fence. From an insurance perspective, whoever paid for the fence owns it (or whatever share of the construction cost you can show you paid.) This determines if you get the full replacement cost, 50%, etc.

Customarily, or at least it used to be, your first visit with an attorney is free. I have a feeling that everybody who has said "skroo 'im" is right, but I do not have a law degree to go with that feeling. I think it would be a good idea to get an informed take from a lawyer.

It occurred to me that you might have had a dog in your yard when they tore down the fence. Luckily you didn't, but you could have lost a treasured pet because this yutz couldn't be bothered with informing you of his plans. In any case, he compromised your security during the construction phase, and that would have been traumatic to me. (Kidding, but lawsuits have been filed over sillier stuff.)

Wait ! Why are yall bashing this guy , he just ask a question.
When told a move was involved he said OK and left.
Whats with all the name calling and negative vibes, lighten up before Ya'll blow a gasket or sumthin....Sheesh

LOL.

Good point and while I certainly don't think much of the dude, so far he hasn't really harmed me in any way. It is a good thing I didn't have a dog in the backyard and I did feel a bit violated with the fence builders traipsing around in my yard while they built the thing, but all in all no real major hurt (yet).

Now, if I end up getting something all legal-like in the mail or something, then I might change my opinion to be a little stronger. :)

We just moved & needed a fence for my dogs. I told the neighbour on the side there was no fence, did not ask for $$, just let him know one was going in, I needed it so I took care of it. His biggest worry was weed eating the fence line. He is older & I told him my son will takecare of it

We had to replace a section of our fence that blew over during a storm. Me and my neighbor split the costs and we did the fence ourselves, but we agreed on that beforehand. If you had no say in it then I'd say you have no reason to pay.
