I bought a used car in March. I noticed the tag was expired at the time, but didnt pay much attention to it. The car needed some work which took a couple of months. Once the work was done, I made an appointment with my wifes tribe for registration and tags.
I know that I had to register within thirty days and I didnt. My bad.
On the way to Shawnee on Friday, I was pulled over by OHP. He began the stop by ranting at me for not pulling over IMMEDIATELY! I did not have the radio on, my kids were being quiet, and I had the windows up, so, I pulled over the second he popped his siren. He brought me back to his car and began to berate me, threatening to impound my vehicle, etc. Now, I explained that I was on the way to the tribal tag agent and this was the earliest appointment I could get. He let me know that theres no such thing as an appointment at any kind of tag agency and that he might reconsider towing my car cept fer thim kids. I explained that we planned to stay the weekend in Shawnee for the PowWow. Why else would I have the title and bill of sale with me in a packed suitcase in the trunk?
I then got a ticket for $241 for driving with an expired tag. Sigh, fine, it was expired, thats on me. I then received ANOTHER ticket for $241 for failure to pay taxes owed to the state. Huh? Two fines for the same offense?
