Open carry?

I have no problem at all with punishing those who are stupid with a gun. But infringing the Constitutionally protected rights of all citizens because some might, or will, be stupid, is the wrong solution.

Drawing, or brandishing, should be scrutinized. And if one were to be investigated in such a case, personal training would be greatly to your benefit.

Had a lengthy discussion with Rep. Derby (Who originally wrote the amendment vetoed by Gov. Henry last year, and was introduced as HB1470 this session) regarding the bills introduced, and he was not optimistic any would reach the house floor. A previous post indicated the circulating discharge petition for HB1647 would not receive the required signatures because Rep. Steele is angry about it. I wasn't a big fan of that bill anyway. He also indicated that Sue Tibbs' bill, HB1796 putting open carry on the ballot in 2012 was a very bad idea. He said that if it was on the ballot, every Brady law advocate would invade the state and it would fail miserably. And if it failed to pass, we likely wouldn't see a open carry bill for the next 10 years. Best hope is a bill or amendment to pass.

HB1652 will receive a hearing tomorrow removing technology center's as a prohibited place, as well as HB1796

Senate open carry bills look to pass out of committee just fine this week, according to Sen. Brinkley's office. But Sen. Barrington seems to not want them on the Senate floor either.

Only thing I can suggest is to continue to put pressure on the leadership to get them to allow the bills to the floor for a vote. I'm sure all the same ones will be introduced next session as well. Someone attaching it to an existing bill as an amendment is always possible too. That's what happened last year, so we can hope for that.

It removes technology center parking lots as prohibited. Removal of firearm from vehicle would be subject to the same restrictions as a university (written permission from administration).

HB1796 got a DO PASS AS AMENDED.

Rumor is the amendment is to require "snaps" on holsters when a firearm is carried openly.

Either way, urge your representatives to VOTE IT DOWN. This is the bill that places open carry on the ballot rather than just going through the legislature.

I've seen discrepancies between what gets reported to the official record and what gets posted on the House/Senate websites before. I just wanted to see if you had another source that was showing 13.
