Looks like it passed the house.

Oklahomans are a step closer to getting permission to carry guns after the House committee passed the Open Carry Bill.

All the Oklahomans have to do now is to vote for it.

Rep. Sue Tibbs said the gun rights appeal to all Oklahomans. “I thought the people of Oklahoma should have a say in the matter and that's why I decided to carry this bill with the provision that it go to a vote of the people,” she said.

Under Tibbs' bill, anyone who has gone through the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Concealed Weapon Program and background check would be allowed to carry a weapon, concealed or not.

Ya know honestly since its our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms, its only right that its left to the people to vote weather they themselves are comfortable enough or not to allow this IMO. Seeing as how the 2nd Amendment doesnt say "you have the right to bear arms only in your home or hidden under your clothing", but thats just my opinion on it.

Sure there are gonna be a ton of people who are so uneducated & scared of firearms that they scream about this increasing crime. But I just dont see it goin that way. My view is if you can see someone with a firearm on their person they are sayin in their own way that they will not be easy prey for criminals & are willing to defend themselves, their loved one & those around them from becomming victims. Again, thats just my opinion though.

This outcome is disgraceful. They are cowards and are simply passing the buck.
Would you also agree to vote on the 1st amendment?

Sue Tibbs is a tool....

Why would you rather let government officials vote on this VS the people? I'd like to think in Oklahoma there are enough avid shooters & CCW holders that would go vote for this than gray headed politicians who vote certain ways to cater to certain agendas.

A legislature is a check against majority rule. I guarantee you that we cannot get a majority vote at the polls. Even the "2A supporter" group is split about 50/50 on allowing open carry in Oklahoma.

ETA: I personally don't believe that a legislature should be allowed to refer legislation to the ballot. Legislation subject to a vote of the people should be placed on the ballot by the people.

Honestly I could personally care less if it has to be consealed or if they allow open. As long as they are allowing people to carry on them with permit & not tryin to take my guns away I'm happy, LOL.

But if open carry does pass, I'll be wearing mine in plain sight once I take the proper training courses & get my permit.

The issue with it going to the ballot is that it has a 97.81%* chance to fail. At that point, legislators won't touch it again "because we let you decide".

A legislature sending legislation to a ballot for popular vote is nothing more than playing a political shell game by shirking their duty as elected officials.
