I see it both ways I guess. I'm just not too keen on "ALL" important decisions being left up to a few selected people when it could potientially be a totally different outcome if the peoples voices were allowed to decide. Granted its a double edge sword possibly either way you go on certain issues.

On a more positive note, Congrats to WY, they just passed legislation to allow unlicensed carry. Not sure if its concealed or open but its unlicensed and thats the victory right there. And here we are being told we will be allowed to vote on a right we already have on paper but have lost.
Ducking fathetic....

Why would you rather let government officials vote on this VS the people? I'd like to think in Oklahoma there are enough avid shooters & CCW holders that would go vote for this than gray headed politicians who vote certain ways to cater to certain agendas.

What VM is on about is Tibbs did her dead level best to kill the old campus carry bill from a couple years back. Don't let her SDA permit fool you, she opposes that which we are fighting for.

Sadly I don't see it passing. I really like the idea of having the comfort that if my jacket blows back, and my pistol is exposed I know that I would into get in trouble for it. Crossing my fingers that it will make it.

That's why the People of Oklahoma have the ability to repeal a statute by popular vote. People who have the standing to challenge a law may also convince a judge to issue an injunction against such law that the People of Oklahoma do not agree with.

The legislature is a check against something like a 51/49 or even a 60/40 majority imposing laws against the rather slim minority. In the event that the fringe minority control the legislature, the ability for the People to file an initiative petition allows an avenue for the majority to check a runaway minority.

That is why the legislature should not have the power to refer legislation (other than a Constitutional amendment) to the public ballot. In doing so, they are bypassing an important check on government.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahomans are a step closer to getting permission to carry guns after the House committee passed the Open Carry Bill.
All the Oklahomans have to do now is to vote for it.
Rep. Sue Tibbs said the gun rights appeal to all Oklahomans. “I thought the people of Oklahoma should have a say in the matter and that's why I decided to carry this bill with the provision that it go to a vote of the people,” she said.
Under Tibbs' bill, anyone who has gone through the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation's Concealed Weapon Program and background check would be allowed to carry a weapon, concealed or not.
However some OKC residents have doubts about the bill.
“It might turn into the wild wild west,” Jeanette Brown.
Rob Gibson, another resident, said he had a permit himself but open carry laws may put everyone at risk. “I think its not a good idea at all,” he said. “I think its more dangerous for everyone* both law enforcement and there's just too many irresponsible people.” * Aretha Hasley, however, said it's OK for some people to carry guns. “(It's) just for certain people. Like me,* I don't think I need to carry a gun,” she said. * Currently, seven states, including Oklahoma, don't have open carry laws.

Looks like good news for those of us who support the bill. Not too excited about who they choose to interview. Seems very closed minded. I really can't see Oklahoma turning into the "wild west", like all these libtards are saying. Did all the other numerous states that passed it break out in chaos? Lol

I'm really crossing my fingers for this and campus carry

We need more phone calls and emails. On Monday, OK2A, along with almost 20 other conservative grassroots groups, began circulating a discharge petition at the Capitol. House rules allow for discharge petitions as a means to get a bill brought out of a committee for a vote on the floor if 68 Representatives sign. It is critical that we succeed in this effort. Rep. Tibbs may hear a few of the gun bills, but her open carry bill is a bad bill (I will explain why in a moment). If we are going to get a good open carry bill to the floor, it is going to be done through this discharge petition. Leadership is twisting arms trying to keep Representatives from signing the petition, so we need you to turn up the heat. Call your Representative and politely tell them you expect them to sign the open carry discharge petition. The house switchboard number is (405) 521-2711 or (800) 522-8502. If you are unsure who your Representative is, go to www.okhouse.gov. Also, at the end of this post is a block containing email addresses of all 101 Representatives. You can cut and past it into an email if you’d like to contact all 101 Representatives at the same time.

Rep. Tibbs has said she is planning to hear a few gun bills, including HB1652 (allowing concealed carry permit holders to have their firearms in their car while at a Career Tech), HB2087 (campus carry for college/university faculty and staff members), and HB1796 (Rep. Tibbs version of open carry). The first two are good, but HB1796 is not.

Let me explain. Rep. Tibbs’ version of open carry is a ballot question on the issue. In 1971, the Legislature infringed upon the rights of Oklahomans by making it illegal to openly carry a firearm. The Legislature got it wrong and the Legislature needs to make it right! Sue Tibbs’ idea of making it right is to shirk her duty and make us do it for her. She and the other 100 Representatives were hired by the people of Oklahoma to do a job; but rather than do that job, they want us to do it for them. Furthermore, her version of open carry is an expansion of the concealed carry permit to include open carry. That’s not good enough. We should not have to pay a fee for a license to exercise our rights.

Please call Rep. Tibbs (405-557-7379 or [email protected]) and thank her for agreeing to hear HB1652 and 2087. But also politely ask her to hear HB1400, Rep. Wesselhoft’s unlicensed open carry bill. Also ask her to hear HB1553 by Rep. Kern. HB 1553 will remove restrictions prohibiting a concealed carry permit holder from carrying their firearm into public buildings and meetings.

Additionally, Senator Barrington is not going to hear any Second Amendment legislation. Continue to contact him (405-521-5563 or [email protected]) and President Pro Tempore Bingman (405-521-5528 or [email protected]) and politely ask that the Second Amendment bills receive a hearing.

You can find out more information on the bills on our legislative agenda page at www.ok2a.org.
