Dennis is right. The concept of “peaceful protesting” is our primary tool in bringing about change. A quick look back into history shows that protesting has been in use for centuries. It is a visible view of the First Admendment. And, like all rights, it can, and has, been used correctly and sometimes incorrectly.

If we agree with their position, it’s a great thing, something to be applauded. But if we disagree, we tend to fall into the stance of “they deserve the fire hoses and dogs”.

Blocking a major highway may fall into that category of “too far”, but …

Just stop with the equivalency.

You REALLY take the contrarian thing to the point of stupidity sometimes lol.....

We are all coming out in support of what was done to these protesters, and we (most of us anyway) are in support of the Jan 6 protest. So what is different on these two protests?
There was no legitimate protest for government redress in the blockade of the public roadway. You want to block a public road? Fine, get a permit.

A little context:

Extinction Rebellion blocked traffic to the Burning Man counterculture festival Sunday — only to be rammed aside by tribal police — and are funded by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, along with an heir to the Getty fortune and outdoor retailer Patagonia.

The group calls itself part of a “decentralized, international and politically non-partisan movement” demanding climate action — and until now has largely stuck to causing disruption in Europe.

Under its banner, protesters have superglued themselves to the speaker’s chair in the British Parliament, blockaded busy roads — often by affixing to each other and the asphalt — and even attached themselves to the top of a plane. Allied groups in Europe have vandalized a Walmart heir’s superyacht.

Patagonia paying hippies to get beat up by the police just raised them a notch on my.likeability scale

Think about the long game.

Block a road on the way to a major festival.
Stop hundreds if not thousands of people.
Someone is likely to lose their cool.

There motive was not to protest,
They wanted someone to assault them so they could file a lawsuit.
Thats the point of the video work.
Get someone outside the protesting party to do something aggressive and capture it on video. Then react in a manner that could imply significant injury.

Then hire an attorney and name everyone they can identify at the scene.
They claim some sort of injury, soft tissue, lots of pain but nothing that can be disproven with testing.
The get a pile of small go the F away checks from the insurance carriers for the named but not actively involved parties, and then a bigger one from who ever they prove knocked them down.

They can hide behind the position that they were peacefully protesting, and the other party approached and engaged with them. That is likely to nullify any affirmative defense arguments on the part of whom every they sue.

The smart move was bringing in law enforcement after politely requesting that the protesters clear the public road.

Part of self defense is not to take the bait.
" His(the leftist) feelings of inferiority are so ingrained that he cannot conceive of himself as individually strong and valuable. Hence the collectivism of the leftist. He can feel strong only as a member of a large organization or a mass movement with which he identifies himself.

Notice the masochistic tendency of leftist tactics. Leftists protest by lying down in front of vehicles, they intentionally provoke police or racists to abuse them, etc. These tactics may often be effective, but many leftists use them not as a means to an end but because they PREFER masochistic tactics. Self-hatred is a leftist trait."

Do you suppose that there were roads blocked, or people unable to enter the Capitol for normal business on Jan 6?

Congress was there. Evidently traffic was moving and entrance allowed.

Pukelosi left 10 minutes before calling Capitol Police to let her instigators / rioters in. So, traffic wasn't blocked.

Comparing apples to oranges.

It’s always easy to believe that we are right and those other folks are the ones that are wrong. Both protests were disruptive to segments of society and both were “right” in the eyes of those protesting. We just don’t like those protests on the left.

He followed the crowd into the Capitol, walked around and then left. The other young fellow from Muskogee was convicted on a misdemeanor and received 22 days, to be taken at his discretion. He is one of the ones that was pictured in Nancy’s office, with his feet on her desk and one of her beers in his hands.
