any S&W revolver will do nicely ... I'll buck the trend and recommend a J-frame because it's one of the best conceal carry pistols made. S&W 640pd needs a close look... 340PD if you've got the budget. double action only with concealed hammer means a no snag draw.

getting a J-frame means you need a second S&W revolver which should be a .22 ... amazingly cheap to shoot while earning your revolver form. and yes shooting a double action trigger accurately is a learned skill that has to be maintained to be effective.

Smith and Wesson Model 19 (or you prefer stainless, the 66). .38 and .357 mag, arguably the best revolver Smith and Wesson ever made. They don't make a .357 in the smaller frame anymore, aside from the airweights, which I hear are kinda not fun to shoot. My Model 19 is my favorite gun, I wouldn't trade it for $1000, and it cost me $400. It'll hit two-liter bottles all day at 100 yards, I kid you not. It's insanely accurate, and an absolute joy to shoot.

Model 10's are even cheaper, but they are only .38, not .357. Watch any movie with a revolver in it, it's probably a Model 19. If you don't believe me, believe this guy http://www.gunblast.com/RKCampbell_SWsBest.htm

For a first revolver, I'd go with an S&W or a Ruger. The Model 15 is good suggestion since it had adjustable sights. If you are wanting one for a fun range gun, I wouldn't choose a J frame Smith. Another good choice would be the Smith Model 66. Ruger GP100s are also good.

As far as what to look for on used revolvers, I'm sure you'll find some online guides. Primarily you'll be interested in cylinder timing.

Not sure what the rules are for out of state buyers but the FFLs on the board could answer that.

Local gun shops in Tulsa that carry revolvers? Hmm.. Sooner Guns and Second Hand Rose Pawn come to mind.

Also the Newest shop in Tulsa with an FFL and some inventory is BP Outfitters at 21st and memorial, Directly across from The Golden Corral in the shopping center next to the pool hall!!!!!

I purchased this S&W model 65-2 from Big Boys back in March or April. They got them as police trade-ins. They had at least two full glass cases of these things at the time. With .38spl it is a really nice shooter. Not bad with .357mag. It is pre-lock and I love it. :D

Second that...

Can't go wrong with a 686 in any caliber. 4" barrel minimum, 5" if you can find one (limited manufacture) and 6" if you like 'em big.

My 5" 686 in .357 came with a removable rear sight and a drop in weaver rail. Great revover and the most accurate handgun I own.

This and a round butt Model 13 are my favs.

When checking one out, make sure it is empty slowly squeeze the trigger 6 or 7 times. Listen for and watch the cylinder lock-up. Also, cock it, and see if the hammer can be overcome by pushing hard on it.
