I had a Ruger SP101 listed on the old Armslist. Got the old "will pay asking plus, sending a check for $xxxx, cash and ship gun, with Wally gift cards to FFL."

FFL was expired, in Seattle. Ship to was Iowa. DL was different name and address.

Told "him" I don't do illegal sales or SCAMS.

Canceled posting.
Reposted 2 weeks later.
3 days, I get a letter, different return address in Iowa. Enclosed check for $3800. Copy of same expired FFL. Instructions to send Wally gift cards, after cashing check, keep asking price on gun, shipping and $100 "for my trouble".

Called ATF. They said it was State matter.
Called OSBI. They said it was local matter.
Took it all to PD, they laughed, took everything and said they would send it to OSBI.

Never heard back.

I don't know if things have changed or not, but when the wife and I worked at the OSBI, there was very few crimes where the agency had "original jurisdiction." Most of the OSBI's work is that which Sheriff's offices and local PD's have requested the assistance of the OSBI because the locals don't have the manpower or personnel to investigate the crimes.

The agency has enough to do without having to deal with extra "original jurisdiction" crimes.

I posted my phone number on an ad here one time in the past few years and some guy from oologah that was a complete and total time waster contacted me. I'm pretty sure I posted about it here. I know his name and home address. Dude just wanted to look at my guns and then say: I'll pass. Wasted time and gas to meet him without so much as a apology.

No. In addition to working crimes where the locals haven't the lab facilities and personnel to actually investigate the scene, they do have their "original jurisdiction" cases to do. On top of that, when the big kerfuffle went on about Joyce Gilcrist's lab findings, it was the OSBI labs that went back and reviewed every one of her cases.
