I need opinions! Winchester 94, or Rossi rio grande in 30-30? Who's owned what? The Rossi kinda scares me cause I've had a bit of a time finding aftermarket parts and accessories. I'm finding a lot of used 94's going for somewhere in the $400-450 range, and I like that number.

The Rossi Rio Grande looks like a Marlin 336 clone to me. Not that that's a bad thing. I've shot a rossi Win 92 clone plenty, and it's a joy to shoot. I imagine the Rio Grande is made just as good.

My consideration would be that if I got the 94, the only way I'd allow it to be scoped is if it was a scout type mount. I know people do it, but putting a mount over the bolt seems like a bad idea to me and an offset mount would drive me nuts.

I have a Win94 Trapper in 44 Magnum. Added the Williams sight and had the action slicked up a bit when I was living in AZ. Really a fun gun to shoot and I find it rather practical.

Also ... Check out Taylor's and Company for the lever guns they are selling. They have a takedown 44 Magnum that is very interesting.

If I am not mistaken, the rio grande is a 336 clone, short of 2 features.
I'm not a huge fan of the scout mount. I like how it looks, but, it's just not too practical. YMMV.

Good looking gun!! Taylor's is just a bit out of my price range.

have you looked at a new Marlin 336? Academy has them for under $400 brand new.

I have, the 336BL is almost exactly what I want, however supposedly marlin has had a bad streak since 2008. Absolutely nightmarish quality control from what I have heard. I don't even want to risk it.

If I may suggest ... delay your timing expectations on getting a gun. Save up and get what you want ... and not a compromise. You will be happier having what you want and the wait will reduce any cognitive dissonance you may get with a lesser choice.
