Screwed Over by a Towtruck Company, Any Recourse?

Towing companies can be very corrupt. Not all are, but the bad ones are really bad.

I had one guy come out to tow my shuttle bus off the highway to town after it blew a diesel line. He took the driveshaft out so it could be towed, charged me $275 for 7 miles and then refused to put the driveshaft back in. I was not happy.

I have had run ins with two different companies. My sons truck was towed and they cleaned out everything in the truck CD's, sunglasses, jack, jack handle, lug wrench, subwoofer. You get the idea. Claimed someone broke into it. Got it back the same day towed. HMMM guess its possible.

Second was my niece. The tow company charged her some crazy high amount. Contacted a friend that was a dispatcher for the State Troopers. They let her have her car for no charge. Asked what he did. He told them he would not send any more business thier way.

You said the guy hand written in new/more charges on the original invoice. Was the original computer generated with hand written in while you were molested? Seems like a decent case for a judge to hear in small claims court or what ever commission would hear the complaint you make against the tow company.

Edit. And the BBB is not a reliable organization. As it has been shown in years past, many fraudulent companies have somehow ended up with very high BBB ratings.

Not to mention the gaming that goes on there.

I personally rank BBB's reliability right up there with political facts from Facebook memes.

Simple fix for the future. Don't lend your brother a car. Its amazing how people get screwed every time they "lend" a vehicle. tickets,towed, wrecked, etc.

It was a generic receipt/invoice and the blanks are filled in by hand. You can see the total is written over.

Not much you can do to make things fair without handing over a chunk of your life. Even at minimum wage for the time you'd spend making things right it isn't worth the hassle.

Have you looked under your vehicle to make sure the tow truck driver didnt hook onto something he shouldnt have and damaged your vehicle while pulling it up on the truck? That would give you something physical you could use against them.

Call the news station that does the consumer stories and see if they'll go out there.
