There are preservation wax preparations for firearms that museums use to protect their collectible guns. You might look into one of those. Also, some of the modern synthetic firearms lubricants treat the metal to make it more resistant to corrosion.

I'd carry the gun, but only after treating it to something like this.

I often carry my old school S&W Terrier. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I'm doing it since it is a beautiful old pistol though not totally pristine. I just make sure I wipe it down and oil it often.

Yeah, but be sure and watch that snout, cylinder and crane!

Also, be sure and look under the bottom of the barrel to make sure it's not cracked.

Airweights are famous for doing that.

Off topic a bit but I need to know: how did you crack that barrel? Too many high-pressure rounds? Too many rounds, period? That picture has me paranoid. I'm examining my 637 millimeter by millimeter.
