I know little about car GPS units, but grew tired of staring at my iphone for directions while driving, so I bought a refurb TomTom 355XL from Walmart online for $88. Big screen, auto darkening, comes with windshield mount and works fine.

I'm sure there are better, but I like to just type in the destination and go. The data is accurate and easy to view. I'm buying another for the wife's car.

I don't blame you at all! I just really didn't care for the interface on the Tomtom. If it works for ya, go for it! :D

My Garmin was really reliable and had a good interface, but I use the Tom Tom app on my iPhone now(doesnt require 3G service, uses the internal GPS and mount extends the range).

I know OP has already chosen, now just commenting for benefit of all who may be curious...
