Used both and I actually like TomTom more. One grip I had about my Garmin 205 is that the keyboard couldn't be changed to QWERTY. How is this not the standard in this day and age?

My TomTom has text to speech and a recent software patch to lock onto satellites quicker, so it's nice to have in unfamiliar areas. Navigation-wise, both work fine for getting around.

I've used both Garmin and Tom Tom and was very happy with both of them. Both of them worked well within city limits and neither could find a county road address to save their life (maybe I need to update the map). All things cosidered I would go with the Garmin.

Never tried a garmin, we own a tom tom one, it works in a pinch but I find it slow and lacking in function. I prefer my android phone to the tom tom for navigation. It does not need cell service it has stand alone GPS that does not need cellular positioning and google navigator cache's the route map so that if you lose cellular you still have nav.
