No, Wal Mart used their buying power to kill the competition, often selling at very low or no margins to draw customers away from local businesses. They don't have to do that anymore. In the beginning people didn't realize what was happening, they do now and some are fighting to keep Wal Mart out of their communities.

Wal Mart has done more damage to the American economy than Obama or any politician.

I hate walmart because i have tried to compete with them on prices. It put us out of business because we could not buy guns and ammo and stay in business. actually had to buy some ammo from walmart to keep our shelves stocked and was cheaper then we could order it. But we could'nt buy it from walmart and sell it for the same price. walmart sucks big donkey dongs.

walmart has put more mom and pop stores out of business then any other chain. you floks need to support the people instead of the corporations.

Wal-Mart didn't destroy the competition. The competition destroyed themselves by not adjusting to changes in the local free market. The customers who opted to shop Wal-Mart rather than the "mom and pops" also contributed to "destroy[ing] the competition."

Tell me. What exactly has Wal-Mart done wrong here? Maximize profits? Should this be a sign that the free market doesn't work? Is something automatically of lower quality just because it's imported? Is American manufacturing truly superior to that of other countries?

mom and pop stores cant afford to buy by the semi load so they dont get a good deal on merchandise. try and compete for yourself and see how you like it.

Are they required to sell their product through Wal-Mart?

PepsiCo could theoretically pull all of their products from Wal-Mart, but there is a gamble involved. The question is how long until that gamble pays.

Of course not, but they are required te either close up shop or move their manufacturing out of the country.

You really haven't been around long enough to remember anything other than a Wally World, but if you were, you would remember that many of your neighbors worked in a manufacturing plant. These neighbors were typical middle class. The middle class existed before there were only two classes, wealthy & poverty stricken. Those neighbors weren't concerned that their bosses would close the plant and ship their jobs to some thrid world country that encourages child labor.

Why would a manufacturing plant run out of money and have to close up shop if they are recording record sales? I guess that we can ask Zebco formerly located in Tulsa.
