Whatever brand you buy, get a straight shaft type, and add an "Edgit Pro" edging accessory. Major back saver and time saver if you trim a lot of concrete sidewalk/driveway edges. I started using one on my Echo SRM230 last summer and it is the best thing since sliced bread. That thing cut my driveway edging time in half or more, and no need to remove it for normal trimming. FWIW I have learned to stick with Echo's Black Diamond line - a little more expensive to buy but so tough I use a lot less of it).

Stijl, Echo, battery, etc. buy what you can afford (cost, weight, parts availability)….. take care of it, use ethanol free gas, quality 2-cycle oil, change filters, keep it clean…. They should all last you a long time.
