What is so great about the P-mags?

I like them because they just feel like they function smoother and feel more precise. My GI mags were crap until I switched out the followers for the Magpul anti-tilt followers, now they function just as smooth. Totally worth the upgrade.

Also, maybe just semantics, but I keep seeing people talking about "steel" mags. Did they actually make any in steel? All my GI mags are aluminum...

HK-416 (aka, SA-80) mags are steel and in service. Most GI mags are aluminum though.

Early M-16 mags were steel, and could rust, and did rust.

You can still buy stainless steel mags from Midway if I remember right. I get so much gun mail stuff, its hard to remember which vendor has which. Saw it in a recent catalog.

N8, you are correct sir. They are aluminum, not steel. Sorry, things like that bug the crap out of me when other people do it....

The only reason I know is because I was refurbishing some beat up ones and looked up to see if people parkerized them, and found out you can't.

Fun fact, the finish isn't anodized/parked/paint, it's a dry-film moly lube. I got some from fastenal and it didn't turn out like I hoped. I'll probably redo them later.

They're a better short term investment than any CD or mutual fund offered in the last year.

I'm not selling my little stash, but wonder about all the guys that bought piles of the gen 2 mags last fall for $9. Say you had the forsight to buy a thousand for $9k and sold them for $30 each, it's a pretty remarkable 3 month return.
