Who in your opinion is the most underrated band? You know the one that put out hits but really never got the respect they should have. My vote goes to Cheap Trick. Lots of hits like "Dream Police" "want you to want me" "Gonna raise hell" and so on. And who can forget their lead guitarist Rick Nielsen. Wild stuff there. Who is your pick?

The Mother Hips. Saw them for the first time over the summer and was shocked that they are not more popular. Was also shocked that I had never heard of them even though they've been together nearly 20 years.

And underrated to me means way less popular than they should be. Cheap Trick definitely had their time IMO.

I dont know much about styles of music outside of modern, progressive and extreme metal bands. I'm a metal guitarist in a couple of bands but also a big fan of music,so my list would be really long here if I listed all of the talented extreme metal bands that I know of that are not able to capitalize on radio airplay or much if any TV exposure, outside of Headbangers Ball. Alot of them are friends of mine. Alot of them on Roadrunner, etc labels. I'll just say two out of the many I would list that are probably known here: Dream Theatre,Kings X, and Helmet. Neither band have ever got much financial success even though theyve always recieved great critical reviews of their albums and they are excellant musicians.

I'm not a big power blues fan but as an example of this is a guy like Joe Bonamassa who is right now the 'it' guy and getting all of this aclaim while poor dumbass Eric Gales cant stay out of trouble long enough to get it together. And when he's hot he makes Joe or any other power blues player look like a beginner.

Still, just way too many bands and players for me to list here that IMO record and tour nonstop but never get much respect because they may be popular inside their genre but they will never be mainstream. Bluegrass, hardcore blues, etc and other non mainstream bands and players go thru the same thing. The bastard children of other more popular genres that the mainstream public can handle.

Cheap Trick? Huh? Didnt they like sell millions of records in the late 70s and 80s?

What about Bob Dylan? Everyone agrees that he has an exceptional voice, and he travels with the best musicians.
If he'd just cover other peoples songs instead of that crap he writes himself, he could be the new Elvis.

I'm going to go with one of my favorite bands and say Cold. They have some really good songs. Listen to most anything off "13 ways" or year of the spider or a different kind of pain. Someone did a video of the song "When angels fly away" done to the movie jarhead, it was really good.
