My granddaughter got this little buck this morning, just north of Broken Bow. She's 13, got her a doe last year. This morning was the first time she's gone out on her own, and it paid off for her. I don't have any details yet, other than she shoots a Rossi Youth .223 and they blood trailed the deer for, according to my daughter in law, a LOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNG way!

Congrats to all everyone posting up deer - good to Hoddy, 264 and fishfurlife, etc. doing work again this year. And Okie with the .41 Blackhawk kill - nice.

Been a slim year for RH. I came home from camp tonight, the second weekend of rifle, for the first time ever. We've no acorns and no water and it's just been tough. I've passed one busted up 8 that chased a doe by me last Sunday - that's been the highpoint of my action this year. Long hours, little movement, no decent buck sightings = mental burnout.

I had to work opening day, made it out last Sunday night, scared up a real nice buck getting to my stand and couldn't get a shot off. Saw a bunch of turkey and a couple does. Woke up the next morning and headed back out. This was the first year I didn't pack up after 11 and head in until evening. It was warm, but there were deer moving EVERYWHERE around me, mostly out of range. Finally, at 1:32 this guy strolled right up to my stand, and stood broadside for a few. I couldn't pass a chance to fill the freezer with a hungry husband. He dropped right where he stood. Still need to fill my doe tags and my husband needs to fill all his. Turns out I made a good choice to take him, along with that hungry husband, we found out that night I am pregnant with our first baby. It couldn't have been a better day!

Pulp-congrats and pass on the congrats!!

Ridge-how far are they going for water? I know I'm going to be looking at converting a windmill over to a solar pump, if things continue as they are.

Jacque-congrats to you and your husband on expecting your first! Very nice on the midday buck!!

Ok folks. I have here some shots of the Deer taken from a lease I am on near Sparks, in Lincoln County. One is allegedly a near record nontypical. :) The other is a sad tale but a funny pic.

First, we have Mauricio's big buck! Taken last Saturday. This old brute has some major tines on him. Looks like a mule deer he is so old.

Next up we have Dan, "The Man" Stoner. Most of you will remember him as DrTadHusseinWinslow. :) He shot this deer last weekend and tracked it for a bit till it became too dark. The following morning he found this!

Double congrats on the midday buck, Jacque.

Ridge-how far are they going for water? I know I'm going to be looking at converting a windmill over to a solar pump, if things continue as they are.

I'm not sure exactly what they're eating or where they're watering right now. I've been on our lease 14 years and the creek has flowed every single year except this year. Last year it didn't start flowing until November, but it did start flowing. This year it's not flowed at all. This is hilly NEOK, so there is a a large lake on an adjoining property and several spring-fed creeks on adjoining properties. All our ponds are dry, save for a scummy puddle of 2" stagnant water. They could easily water at the big lake, a spring, etc, all very close to us.

Mainly I think it's the acorns killing us. All my best spots are acorn flats/ridgetops, and on a normal year you can't keep the deer off them. This year you have to hunt to find a single acorn, and when you cut it open it's rotten inside. I don't seen them having much motivation to frequent my areas with nothing to eat or drink. Usually the acorn flats hold the does and the does bring the bucks in during the rut. I mean we've seen slim acorn years, but like I say I have 14 years there and the other guys have over 20 and we've never seen anything like this.
