So we can blame Him for killing babies, but not give Him credit when good things happen? :)

Man tells other men to not question why bad things happen, that there's a higher reason, etc. Yet the instant gratification of positive situations is rode to the fullest extent in "god's" praise. There's no logic to that.... or integrity.

Well... I broke my internet posting rules so I had to back out!

Strike 1: I commented on the internet about abortion
Strike 2: I was a smart a$$
Strike 3: I quoted another user on a comment he made back on page 15 that was pretty much out of context and not fair to him (sorry Dale00)

It's all pretty much been said in here so I don't really have much to add.

But since I opened my mouth...

I grew up in a Baptist church, went to church camp, got baptized, touched my first boobs at a lock-in and all that good stuff but I never met God or Jesus and after a while had to be honest with myself. Struggling through that and ultimately accepting that in Oklahoma is a pretty tough experience. There comes a time where you have to wipe away all the BS they feed you with the donuts and kool-aid in Sunday school and think seriously about things. I think that is why the OP started this post in the first place.

When you are genuinely struggling to come to an understanding and the best you can get is "have you ever looked into a baby's eyes" or "just look at the trees and flowers" or "a god is the only explanation for all this" or my favorite "you just have to have faith" it gets a little frustrating. I think that is why the OP keeps digging. 20 pages and still no answer that some of us find compelling.

If you are able to throw all those questions to the side and have faith, great, I'm a little jealous. As they say, ignorance is bliss! If you have seen things that you believe are the "hand of God" and you are convinced He is real, great, I'm a little jealous. I haven't had that experience.

Great post. And you are so right about losing your faith in a place like Oklahoma... It is in fact, not easy at all. The fall-out can be life changing due to the ostricizing the Christian community and even family can deal out. I've said it before and I'll say it again... For many, Christianity is really just another form of tribalism. If you're loyal to the faith, they're loyal to you, leave it and the tribe leaves you. Their devotion isn't to you as a person... It never was.

Jesus saith to him: Because thou hast seen me, Thomas, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and have believed.

That's a powerful observation. I have received the same treatment by family (in-laws...go figure).

I sometimes think OSA is the same way...but that's just a gut feeling. I don't know for sure.

These are some areas where religion is bad for society. The religious never want to consider that their mindset contributes to family desserting each other and sometimes even turning on each other.

The real tragedy is that it's all a myth and yet that very same myth manipulates them away from their very real family.

And people wonder why atheists can't stand religion. Imagine family you love ignorning you and having no interest in you because Papa Smurf God says you should not fellowship with people who aren't Smurfstians. Yeah, it's like that.
