My view of the situation is it all worked as it should have. Business politely exercised their rights and asked person OC ing to leave, which person politely did. Perfect.

So c'mon, tell me. How many official members does OKOCA have? Have you been able to transform that success on FB to a real, active Association, with a large membership?

We have between 60 and 75 paid members currently. The problem is that the things we do as an association benefit everyone, so even those who are not members still get many of the benefits members do. It takes money to print brochures, informational packets, and other materials we use. I would be willing to bet that most people on our facebook page don't think about the costs associated with these things, or they don't have extra money to go towards helping to pay for these. When we first got started and were printing brochures, we were using our own supplies, but as we began to grow (like any start up business) the business was able to pay for these items. It's hard to convince people they should pay to be part of an organization that is going to work on protecting their rights, when the organization is going to do that no matter if they join it or not.

When we have events, more than just paid members show up. We have a group of people who support what we do (even though not all are financial supporters), they exercise their ability to open carry as allowed by Oklahoma law. We knew from the start it would be hard to convert all our facebook likes (or even 10% of them) to paid members. Like I said, it is hard to get people to help pay for things that will benefit them when they will receive the same benefits without paying for them. Just look at all the illegal immigrants who receive benefits even though they don't pay for them.

I am highly concerned about all those likkered-up hippahs in that establishment. Sounds like Berkeley Commiefornia or Austin. Maybe y'all should open carry a water pipe and wear The Footprint of the American Chicken.

Like I told Okiebryan, Thanks for whatever it is you do. I can definately sympathize with the difficulty of getting folks to go from clicking "Like" on a FB page to making a serious commitment to a cause, but making soft comparisons between those of us who haven't financially supported OKOCA and illegal aliens, really?

That kind of high-horse "we're fighting for you, yet you shun us" attitude is off-putting and will likely drive more people away than it attracts. It can also serve to distract from any actual good you maybe doing, somewhere.

You did this voluntarily. Concealed and open carry were already signed into law before your association became official (whether or not some members were active in that cause, you admittedly didn't create the assocation until after Fallin signed OC). Nobody asked you to do it and your actual efficacy and impact is arguable. So you might quit whining about people not having any gratitude for living under the benefits and rights you have nobly bestowed upon them.

None of that goes to say that you will never get my support, but as long as all I see is the badgering of store managers, media interviews putting out bad information (like OC being illegal in OK since '71, which is not the case), and tacit support for an individual who acts like an ass in a polling place days after OC passed, you will just be another fringe organization. Okiebryan extended the invitation to meet, that's something I may do if I'm ever home long enough to catch my breath.

(As individuals, I'm sure you are great folks and I have no ill will towards you personally. I'm just voicing my impressions/opinion of the 'movement' or whatever you want to call it)

I checked out the page and would like to join. If you had an online form to submit info and a PayPal link, it would already be official.

As for printing out, filling out and mailing in a form and a check, well, who knows when I'll get that done. :(
