I don't need to lay off anything. I'm not violating anyone's rights either....

Do you even shop at Whole Foods?

I'm well aware that you don't have a "need" to lay off anything. I asked you to. Never accused you of violating anyone's rights. We've all heard eleventy-seven times that businesses have the right to regulate the carry of firearms within their businesses, it's even specifically enumerated in State Law (which I may have read once or twice). That doesn't change the fact that the mantra is old and worn out. There is literally no reason to invoke the business owners' rights unless you 1)think we don't know that is their right, or 2)perceive that someone is violating those rights.

Not that it's relevant to the discussion, but I actually live near that store, and I've shopped there a few times. I am waiting to learn if this is a corporate policy change or if it's a local manager's policy before I decide if I want to return.

Carry on. Have fun with it...and I'll keep commenting at will whether you are tired of hearing it or not.

It is relevent to the discussion if you shop there or not. If you don't shop there then why waste your time?

Are you writing similar letters to all the gun show promoters who do business in Oklahoma and don't allow any form of carry at their shows?

I'm perfectly cool. I commented on his comment. And he commented on my commenting... no biggie. He does what he does.

I'll share who I write letters to as I choose to share. Some I share here, most I don't. I've found a somewhat effective way to change hearts and minds, and most importantly, get the signs down.

SMS, do you always approach those who are advocating for your rights with derision? Or only those advocating for the rights you don't happen to use?

Wow. No, it's not relevant. But either way, your point is made, and your attitude noted.

Ahhh, there it is. The high horse of being a champion of my "rights". That right there is why you and others like you get my attention sometimes.

Here's a news flash for you. Your "Association", which was conveniently officially created after open carry was passed (and has a membership of how many?), does not represent me, nor does it represent the majority, or even a large minority, of Oklahomans.

There is no "right" to open carry, concealed carry, or even pass gas on private property. So therefore by writing letters to Whole Foods, you are not "advocating" my rights. That being said, I freely admit you are doing some good, at least in the sense that some folks who might want to carry a gun into Whole Foods or other private establishments might eventually get to because of your action. That's cool...but it's far from defending my rights.

Licensed open carry is only a t-shirt removed from licensed concealed carry. It is not even a shuffle in the direction of restoring the intent of the 2nd Amendment. If you want to advocate for my rights, lets see you get active with the legislature and work to get Constitutional Carry passed...tackling grocery stores and all-but-defending twits who make a fool of themselves and other gun owners at a polling place doesn't cut it.

Post all you want about your activities, but sorry if we aren't all genuflecting in your direction because of them. I do my best to keep it civil.

From our website since day one:
Oklahoma Open Carry Association (OKOCA) began in 2011 as a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/opencarryok) where Oklahomans interested in the lawful practice of open carry of handguns joined forces to lobby the State Legislature for the passage of a positive firearms bill that included a provision for open carry. This page currently has more than 1,600 supporters.

SB1733 was signed into law by Governor Mary Fallin on May 15, 2012. A few days later, the founders of the Facebook page “I Support Open Carry in Oklahoma” formed Oklahoma Open Carry Association (OKOCA). The primary objectives of this organization include educating the public about open carry, to normalize the sight of lawfully carried handguns by licensed and trained citizens, and to work with law enforcement agencies to address their concerns about appropriate procedures when dealing with lawful open carriers.

A major goal of OKOCA is to demonstrate to Oklahomans in general that licensed gun owners are one of the most law-abiding segments of our society and they need not fear lawful open carry. We also seek to exercise and protect the citizens’ right to self defense using the most efficient and common tool, a handgun.

Guess you don't remember when 3 of us were posting updates during the last legislative session and asking people to call and email key legislators. Guess you don't remember that on the day Gov Fallin signed SB1733, that we had amassed more than 600 people on a silly little Facebook page in about 9 months, most of whom were active daily in contacting their legislators...often for the first time in their lives... Those 3 people who were posting on OSA formed an official non profit organization within days of the bill being signed into law.

But what you didn't know is that the Oklahoma Firearms Coalition, which consists of leadership from OK2A, OKOCA, and Students for Concealed Carry, have been all working on this year's legislative agenda. Who do you think gets these bills started and lobbies the legislature? We've been discussing, writing, rewriting, and talking to legislators to advance your legal rights to carry in Oklahoma. So, yeah... I am part of something bigger that is championing your rights.

Please tell me what you are doing to make a positive change for gun rights in Oklahoma other than following me around OSA being contrary?

Wow, you're on Facebook. That's earth shattering...but how many members does OKOCA have?

Seriously, I'm glad you are working on the legislative front...I DO see that as advocating my rights. Thank you for that. I am not active in regards to "gun rights in Oklahoma" because frankly I think it is one of the least of our concerns today (my personal activities tend to revolve around advocating for wounded vets and those who suffer from PTSD). We have much bigger problems at the state and national level that need our attention. But if you work to hold that line on the gun rights front, that's cool and it gets some respect from me. Getting into snarky tiffs with a grocery store owner is another thing and I'll comment all I want on it.

I tell you what. Go back to being you, and I'll be me. I promise I'll try to keep it civil.
