That's actually a good point. I do wonder though, what comes first? Understanding and acceptance or rejection?

OP Handled it well. As to this comment, they both come at the same time. Spend some time over at opencarry.org and you will find that generally speaking, OC has been a non event. Yes, there are the stories of new gunbuster signs going up, but you will also see that there are many people OC'ing all around the state and it is no big deal.

Also keep in mind that a lot of those gunbuster signs will come back down over the coming months, just like they did when CCW was first passed.

I don't think that magically happens on it's own though. I think involvement from a positive standpoint by pro-gun folks at various levels has to play a part (talking to people, writing letters, signing petitions, the occasional news-coverage, etc.).

Sent a message through their website, and apparently their store manager got it. I'm not finished with him yet. Apparently he thinks Whole Foods is a bar. Either that or people are doing some very irresponsible things with premature infants? Check out the fail in this answer...

Good afternoon. We have to have a no weapons policy as guests can consume alcohol on preemies and have had many guests voice their concern for this. I understand your feelings, we have a security patrol the parking lot at all hours to keep our guests safe. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Doesn't sound like he thinks it's a bar...he stated that alcohol is consumed on the property and some of their customers (and apparantly management) is concerned about that mixing with firearms.

Unreasonable fear? Probably...but well within their rights.

Here's my response to him...
I hope that you will help me to understand your response, as frankly it left me a little confused.

You said, "We have to have a no weapons policy as guests can consume alcohol on preemies and have had many guests voice their concern for this."

Am I to understand that you believe that having such a policy is required by some law, because you have wine tastings as a part of your business? Many guests have expressed a concern about lawful carriers in a grocery store? How many, would you say?

Next question: You said, "we have a security patrol the parking lot at all hours to keep our guests safe." Please help me to understand exactly what they do to keep guests safe. Are they armed? Are they instructed to intervene in the event of a violent attack on one of your customers? Or are they instructed to observe and report after the fact? To be a good witness? If it's the latter, exactly how does that "keep your guests safe", other than a small deterrent effect?

Last question: Whole foods has a reputation in the online firearms enthusiast community of being friendly to lawful and responsible gun carriers. Is your aforementioned policy a reaction to the amended self defense act in Oklahoma? Or is it a change in overall corporate policy?

Sincerely, blah blah blah

Hey, can you lay off the "well within their rights" mantra? It's getting really stale. I'm not violating anyone's rights by 1) asking questions about their policy, 2)attempting to educate someone about the issues surrounding the policy, or 3)ultimately choosing to do business elsewhere. It's not like I'm picketing or vandalizing their store. I'm not even publishing the guy's phone number nor email address that he so nicely included in his email.

Unreasonable fear? Without question. To my knowledge, the ONLY consumption of alcohol on "preemies" is wine tasting. If he says "we have to have" the policy, it might indicate that he believes that the state law against carry in a bar applies to him.
