AT&T called me (twice) to confirm our appointment to give me Uverse?

Two times, both in the middle of a nap, AT&T has called me to confirm that they would be out Friday to install my new Uverse (I think) system.

Only problem is, I didn't place the order, nor have I had anything to do with AT&T for a very long time. Not sure how they got my phone number. They didn't seem to know my name, and I wouldn't give it to "em.

I told them that if they were indeed coming to install my new system, they ought to be able to cross ref my number to my nonexistent account. First guy hemmed and hawed, and finally allowed as to how I had a similar number as the real customer. Right. For so many reasons.

I was moderately rude to the first guy, especially when he asked for my address.

I think I almost made the second caller, a young female, cry. (Either that, or she's a really good actor, and could be doing lots better someplace else.) She kept wanting info, and I assured her if these calls do not stop, I will be spending some cash on an attorney, which will in turn result in some costs to AT&T. And I darn well mean it.

This crap really chaps me. I wonder if it is a scheme by AT&T, or a complete scam. Anybody got any ideas? (other than one to the hip--everybody's a commedian) And, has anyone else had the same call lately?

My first temptation was to say "Yeah--bring it, if you can find me."

Geez, you know you just got some struggling widow of a serviceman killed in the conflict in Outer Slobovia who just wants to feed her two kids fired from the only find job she could find, slaving away in an AT&T call center. Now she's going to have to turn to prostitution, or maybe even politics. Bad criticalbass, no biscuit!

Seriously, though, it sounds about like AT&T's level of incompetence. Somebody fat-fingered an entry in an online form, now they don't know what to do...

That's about as good as the collection agency that called my parents house to collect on my student loans. The problem is I've never had a student loan in my life I paid as I went

There are some third party scams, but this was most likely a number entered incorrectly. One of most common things we run into (as an AT&T employee) is a service order to install phone service at vacant lots. I guess when these folks get their free Obama phones, they also get discounted home phone service (subsidized by taxpayers). They just give any bogus address and take their free phone.

I doubt it was even ATT that called, I have had a couple calls on my business line that would gve one the impression the caller was from ATT but when pressed they wouldn't actualy admit they were from ATT.
