Hi,

The story I read suggested that the way the competition was done, it was beneficial for them to throw the game. It may have been in bad taste, but people (especially ones that compete at that level) will do all they can to be the victor. It isn't right to ask them to play their best and be penalized for it. It is the olympics fault for setting up such a stupidity...

Thanks,

Alan

Wow you guys are an interesting bunch. Have you guys ever played badminton? Heck have you guys ever seen professional badminton? The shuttlecock can get up to over 100mph and at times to 200 mph. I doubt many of us could even track much less return a hit from a professional.

Basically instead of single elimination the Olympic games decided that a round robin bracket. In this case it became much more beneficial to throw the game in order to avoid playing the number one ranked team. It's was a strategy.

As for the comment on fencing you realize that the rules for fencing note that in order to protest they cannot leave the stage? And this was after a very questionable second was added to the clock that arguable cost her the gold?

Guys, at least make an attempt to understand what's going on rather than just reading the headlines.

I do realize the protest rules of fencing, I researched them after reading about the story, I was suprised to hear of a consolation medal.

The consolation medal is an interesting development. My opinion and IT'S ONLY THAT, is that it is a bit of a smoking gun as to what happened.

From what I've read it actually looks like there was two questionable calls in that match. Firstly adding time back to a clock that had expired, and then the clock did not start when the match was restarted immediately.

The consolation medal is being offered because the FIE is now acknowledged that there "might" have been some problems with the timing equipment.

ETA: Also she refused the medal.
