I DO NOT..recommend staying..staying..in the Downtown/Fremont area. Poker and single deck Blackjack..hell yes!! Staying..no. Downtown is trying to compete with the Strip..losing it's charm of being slow, different, and unique.

They are doing construction all along the Fremont Street Experience..zip line all the way from L.V.Blvd to Main Street.
The Fremont Experience noise is loud in most of the rooms..except the Golden Nugget....way back in the tower rooms.

El Cortez to the East of Fremont..use to be quiet. Now 7th street to L.V.Blvd has bars and concerts..so the rooms in the El Co..are noisy.

Not sure why anyone would go to Vegas with any idea of peace, quiet and relaxation.

There're plenty of places to look for that on a vacation, but not Vegas, lol.

Oh, and the one time I went, we stayed at Ceasar's. It was nice.

My hotel rooms I like quiet. The casino and bars..party away.

Sitting anywhere from 4-10 hours at a blackjack table or in a poker tournament or even a good game of poker..can last a looooong time.

Hallway noise, doors slamming, kids running up and down the hall..okay. Outside noise..NO!!

Almost all the casinos I've stayed in in Vegas have a little hotel noise. Downtown/Fremont noise..music, concerts, lound bars...don't let the receptionist fool you into.."sure its quiet" down on Fremont. Meaning the closer to Fremont the more noisy the room will be.

If you play at night and sleep during the day..its okay..its okay for the younger crowd..just not me or my wife any more.

Again..I love the Vegas life..that's why were lookking at a second home there..retirement. Getting a little old for the parties..especially at the Palms, Rio, and Mandalay Bay party scenes. We use to go to the Ghost Bar in the Palms..Voodoo Lounge at the Palms and Mix lounge at Manadaly Bay...not any more. Sloww, quiet..where you can drink and enjoy the lounge music..not the bone rattle disco-techno stuff.

Gamble..eat a good steak...gamble...eat a good buffet..sleep..drink while gambling, play some golf..sleep..gamble.

I would be checking to see if the hotel offered free / reasonable shuttle service to the SHOW. Fremont St. was our first choice BEFORE the 'EXPERIENCE' came to be. Construction will tie traffic up and cause problems. The bus pass is a good deal if staying near a main terminal.

Bellagio is first class, Circus Circus has a decent buffet, Caesars is a one stop, no need to go elsewhere; eats, shopping, gambling, probably not too worried about the pool in Jan but it is awesome. MGM, Planet Hollywood are good places. Hard Rock is a ways away from the SHOW but always a great place. Casino Royale, is a DUMP. Rio is not near anything. Wynns is expensive but worth a look.

A room is a room and not the reason we go to Vegas. Gambling is gambling, the people and atmosphere is what changes. It will all depend on what strikes your fancy at the moment. Transportation is a major factor. Cabs suck and get expensive, especially if you don't tell Abduhl where to go and how to get there. The bus is cheap but sometimes slow and just gets you somewhat close. Hotel shuttle is the way to go, if available. Rental car is a waste, parking is a nightmare.

Are there any places where the rooms are covered in plastic? We need a room like that for Purplehaze.

I would check out the Blue Moon Resort. They will treat you like a Prince. I suggested it to one of my good friends for their honeymoon. His wife talk's about it everytime she see's me. It will be truely unforgetable.

The reason I haven't listed a ton of places to stay, food to eat, or where to gamble..is the original poster didn't state much.

Walking or riding to the convention. Where does he want to stay? Does he want to be close to the convention center ...versus. ..needing a ride to the convention center.

How much does he want to SPEND on the room and eating? Does he want to gamble, sightsee, ride Stratosphere rides?

How many days staying?

Gonna also say NY/NY is a good place due to location. Been to Vegas many times and I think it's a nice happy medium.
