Copperheads are not poisonous. You can bite them all day long and not have any ill effects (unless it bites you.)
I’m willing to be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that is a mature eastern hognose. Not a copperhead but first snake I've seen this year. This 2 1/2' black rat snake has really good timing. My shop has been overrun with mice. I'm hoping he takes care of some of them...

@BrandonM is correct. You both are. Both are in fact Hognose snakes. Patterns are varied based on sub-species as well as age as just a couple of factors.I'm no snake expert so it could be. I don't know for sure. Anyone?
This is the eastern hognose I saw in the yard last year. I thought he looked quite different than the one I saw today. But you could be right.

No problem at all. And yes, that's always been my disappointment with "official" pics of snakes online. It's like where are ya'll finding these exact examples of species because that's not how they look out here! Thanks for that info! I can recognize the obvious snakes, but when it comes to similar looking snakes I have to axe the Google. Sometimes it's hard to tell from pictures online.
I concur!!I’m willing to be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that is a mature eastern hognose.
