And that stuff ain't fun when you already have pretty bad asthma.

I'll continue to visit sick people and refrain from a flu shot. My immunity system works better than any shot ever could.

If you really understood what you were saying, you would have never said it, since it makes absolutely ZERO sense.

BWAHAHAHA!!!

I love it.

Veggie, if you've really truly got asthma, then skipping on the shot is a much bigger risk IMNSHO than taking any immunization could ever be. Every year 10-20% of the US population gets influenza or influenza-like illness...

Whatever. It's the friggin' flu.

Which leads to 30,000-40,000 deaths annually in the U.S. alone.

Essentially about as likely not just to get the flu, but to DIE from the flu as you are to die in a motor vehicle accident.

Of course, yes, the shot is a guess as to which strains may be coming this year, but it's better than nothing.

I'm aware it kills people

How many of those 30-40,000 have other health issues? How many are elderly or children?

I didn't know I was such a badass. I'm going to get some t-shirts made with a picture of me in sunglasses and a leather jacket with a caption that says "Live fast, die young, no flu shots"

I think the odds of someone of my age and health dying of the flu are pretty minuscule. I think MY ODDS for even GETTING the flu are much lower than the statisical odds, based on my lifestyle and surroundings. Again, if I'm wrong you are all welcome to dance on my grave.

ETA:
What is consistent is that flu strikes the elderly the hardest. About 90 percent of flu deaths in the 31 flu seasons between 1976 to 2007 occurred in people over age 65.

Yes, I do really truly have asthma. I often take my nebulizer twice a day, and sometimes in the middle of the night.

And no, I don't take the flu shot. Most of the times that I have taken the shot, I've gotten the flu after 6-8 weeks, which means I likely acquired it at some point after taking the vaccine. I've never had the flu without the shot.

Are you saying that you got the flu because of the shot? Are you also saying that not taking the shot protects you from the flu?

I am saying that I have only gotten the flu after taking the shot, and after a long enough period that it is very unlikely that I already had the flu prior to the shot. I do not know if it was because of the shot, and I believe it to be highly unlikely to be from the shot. But elimination of the shot has also seemingly eliminated the flu.

Does that mean that the source of the sickness was the shot? No. Does that means that not taking the shot has protected me from the flu? No. It only means that life has worked out better for me without the shot. To each their own.

Some vaccines are more like crutches to prop up a person's natural immune system in our overly clean society. Some people need those crutches, while others seem to do better without them.

Bunk. Even the CDC admitted that their "36,000 deaths per year" is just a SWAG estimate. And from some of what I've read, most of those deaths were due to secondary infection - mostly pneumonia.

From their website:

Does CDC know the exact number of people who die from seasonal flu each year?
CDC does not know exactly how many people die from seasonal flu each year. There are several reasons for this. First, states are not required to report individual seasonal flu cases or deaths of people older than 18 years of age to CDC. Second, seasonal influenza is infrequently listed on death certificates of people who die from flu-related complications. Third, many seasonal flu-related deaths occur one or two weeks after a person’s initial infection, either because the person may develop a secondary bacterial co-infection (such as bacterial pneumonia) or because seasonal influenza can aggravate an existing chronic illness (such as congestive heart failure or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).
