Wait until you can afford a good one. I prefer Aimpoint and ACOGs. ACOG works for life and Aimpoint work for 50k to 80k hours depending on the model. Why waste money on something you plan to upgrade?

I've tried the Vortex, it's a little bulky for me. I've had 3 Primary Arms micro dots and I like them better than anything else. When you want to go to the Eotech or Aimpoint, you can almost get your money back out of the PA.

I have a Bushnell TRS-25, and my Dad does as well. We both like them. They are what Daniel Defense used to put on their entry level law enforcement carbines. FYI there are several red dots out there that seem to be the exact same thing as the TRS-25, with minor differences in the location of the rheostat, but all seem to have the same listed battery life and dot size. They are all probably made in the same factory in China or wherever. Primary Arms Micro Dot is one of these. I bought one, and other than the rheostat being at 12:00 rather than at 1:30, it was identical. Konus looks to be the same as well. I suspect that the Vortex SPARC is also made at the same place, though it has the additional features of a night vision setting and auto shutoff, and comes with a screw-on 2x magnifier.

The best deal on the Bushnell is Amazon. They sell the sight and the UTG mounts that go with it (Medium for absolute co-witness, and High for lower 1/3).
