Sry for your loss. I may never have another dog because of this very thing.

This was what I said after I lost my first dog. I went nine years without before I inherited three Labs. Since then, my household has seen the loss of ten dogs, and the pain is the same every time. Yet, the only thing I regret is waiting so long in between dogs - the joys far outweigh the sorrows.

To the OP, my heartfelt condolences.

Yep, I get it. I say the same thing every time we have to say goodbye to one of our dogs knowing full well there's another one on the horizon.
We’ve had at least two dogs for years, and I keep telling my wife I “think” I want to be a one dog family. However, I honestly believe that still having a dog in the house to love on when you have to let one go softens the blow a little. The grief and pain are still there, but you still have another buddy that loves you and needs you.
As much as it hurts to lose a pet, there’s no way I’d want to live my life without them.
