I don't know think it's changed since I bought my truck in 2004, and my wife's car in 2007. Both were listed at roughly $25,000.00. And we paid less than $700.00 to tag and register each one of them.

Tell them to pay it or the deal's off.

It seems as if the new Caprice deal is a go, so I am juggling the thought of purchasing one and trying to figure out the costs involved. THe OK new car tax rate is 3.25% and if the car costs $29500, I came up with almost 9k to get it registered. Seems kinda high to me, so is my crappy public school math wrong, or am I out of my league worrying about paying the taxes on the new car.

Here's what I get as an "out the door price" to get everything squared away on your car:

excise tax: $29,500 * 0.0325 = $958.75
1st year registration fee = $ 91.00
Ownership Transfer fee = $ 17.00
Title Fee = $ 11.00

Total $1077.75
(actually, not sure about the transfer fee since its a new car, so maybe $17 less than that)

That sounds pretty close (what dru said), I bought a truck for a little less than your cost and it cost $1015, sounds right on track, not a fun trip to the tag agency...

Is the sticker $29500 or is that what you are paying? The taxes go off the purchase price minus all rebates. I just tagged one on Friday. Make sure you get all the correct paperwork from the dealer and have your insurance verification and drivers license with you. You are not require to tag until 30 days after the paper is notarized by the dealer.

It is purchase price minus rebates unless the rebates take the vehicle under the OTC blue book system they use. You also have to pay for the tire disposal fee as well when you tag the vehicle and it is based on tire size for the fee. The larger the tires the more the fee is. On my 2008 GM Trailblazer SS with factory 20" wheels the fee was $3.50 per tire.

It is the 3.25% + $91 for the new tag + $1.5 for some fee + title fee $14 (I think) to get you close or like suggested call any tag agency and they will give the almost for sure total price.

This but you also pay a lien fee if you have a loan on the vehicle. And the tire fee ($1 per), and the plate fee ($3 bucks, since new vehicles do not have plates).

So think the 3.25% and add around $130 bucks to it. Will get you pretty close on a brand new vehicle.

There is no rebates, just 'tagging on' to another order:bigeye: 3K down with the remained due in April/May when the cars are available. I still need to email the guy with the options I want to get the final price, but 29,500 was a rough guestamate for a well equiped model.

I see. I've never bought a new vehicle and always paid cash so I never knew about the lien fee or the plate fee. Pretty sure I never heard of the tire fee either. is that only on new cars as well?
