I see. I've never bought a new vehicle and always paid cash so I never knew about the lien fee or the plate fee. Pretty sure I never heard of the tire fee either. is that only on new cars as well?

Nope, these exist on used vehicles too. Well, the tire fee isn't on used cars exactly, but is due every time you purchase tires in the state. Of course, when you buy the car, you can't help but buy the tires (most of the time ;) )

Here's a list of all the fees om the OTC site: http://www.tax.ok.gov/motvehfees.html

and some info on the tire recycling fee:

http://www.deq.state.ok.us/factsheets/land/OKwastetireprogram.pdf

Of course, on used cars you only pay $20.00 on the 1st $1500.00 of value + 3.25% of the remainder

www.carmax.com under calculators they have a TTL calculator and it will give you a pretty close estimate.

Whatever you do, do not go to the tag off at 43rd and Sheridan. They are a.....bright group of girls. I had to pay $83.50 last time I was in there so I gave the lady 5 20 dollar bills. Every one of those women in there argued with me that they could not accept a $100 bill. I kept telling them I understood that, and thats why I used all 20's. Finally the guy in line behind me said "Look if his total was 63.50 you would take his 4 20's would you not?" They were like "Oh now that makes perfect sense"

I haven't been back since. I always use the one at 51st and Lewis now. Its always super quick and never busy

+1. I have been there and they are the least helpful lot I have ever encountered. They tried to convince me to come the next month to get the new style place (I was there in Dec 2008). I said, no thanks it expires the same month anyway - why would it matter to me?!

I hate the new plates..looks like kawkaw. My personalised tag looks as if I bought it at the fair. :( I would rather pay extra for the stamped plate. I've been to busy to get to the tag office, but the last few times I went to the tag agent at 18th and Garnett. The lady was real helpful checking my plate ideas to see if they were taken and tried different spellings to get the idea across.
