I hate it when the news wants opinions on gun laws.

Riiiiiiight...

Because all of us who currently CC and have done it responsibly for years without incident (what's the rate of CC permits cxld every year in OK? something less than .001%) will all of a sudden turn into raving lunatics just itching to pull our guns and start blowing stuff away because now we carry open. Or maybe the quoted poster is referring to those few who may choose to OC their BBQ guns in a $300 fancy tooled leather holster (just like some guys like to drive fancy cars and show 'em off).

As far as the claim that they'll be "Walking around like self proclaimed bad@sses... Feeling all tough..." - sounds a lot like what psychiatrists call projecting to me. Maybe that poster should take a good hard look at himself before going off on the community and those who may choose to OC.

OC isn't a problem anywhere else in the US but it will be in Oklahoma? What makes us different?

Really?

Serious question.

What makes us different?

So there's never been an open-carry incident exploited by the media?

I hope this year we can get Arizona style open carry. No permit, rifles and shotguns allowed.

I sure as hell hope so. I heard the strategy behind the law saying that people from constitutional carry states could carry here would be used as a spring board for constitutional carry here. Argument goes like: "If out-of-staters can carry here without a permit, why not residents? Does the state think that okies can't handle that much freedom?"

I'm a "liberal minded" gun nut, and I'm not trying to pile everyone into one sack. Inevitably, hysteria will overtake the general public when seeing guns out and about. Local media will stay true to track record and find the most ignorant 2A person out there raving about how it's "his god-given right" to openly carry, and the overall view of our crowd will suffer. Primarily because the general population is uniformed and under-educated to the matter at hand.

I support open carry cause, and hate that it required legislation beyond our bill of rights. But I'll stand by my statement of opinion. (opinions are infallible by the way) Any person who wants that attention deserves that attention. My opinion is open carry will do more harm to the 2A popular opinion than any good that will come from it.

Do you know what the term liberal means?

Liberals believe in government action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all. It is the duty of the government to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need. Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve problems.

Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals. Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.

Might want to think about calling yourself a "liberal minded" gun nut? I'm a gun nut myself but the whole liberal mentality I don't understand

I agree, not my definition either. I've always considered myself a libertarian... But when you tell people you're pro-choice, that L-bomb always gets dropped. I've evolved to accept it as jut a title.

1st Article that popped in the google search list from link abover: Wyoming - MC rider stopped because motorist was perturbed he was passed by the MC -LEO with attitude pulled over MC. "I don't like someone with a gun". Went downhill from there. Wyoming is OC and no requirement to notify. LEO got upset because MC rider didn't notify. Rider informed LEO wyoming was not a must notify state. LEO "I don't care - if you've got a gun I want to know it". Need I go on?

2nd Article that popped: Man with gun call. Guy taking a walk. PO'd LEO -unknown why. Harassing a citizen taking a walk and not bothering anyone.

3rd Article in the list that popped: Guy OC'ng in a Sam's. Uninformed greeter.

I didn't bother to go any further. they're all going to be like that or very similar.

So what's your point EZ? We shouldn't exercise our rights because it scares some citizens and pisses off some cops?

Hell man if we had the same attitude about the 1st amendment OSA and about 90% of the forums on the internet would have to be shut down.

At some point the gun community is going to have to draw a line and say enough is enought. It isn't our problem that some citizens are uninformed about what's legal and what isn't. It isn't our problem that some citizens are made nervous or frightened by the sight of a gun. It's their problem.

I'll say again - it's - their - problem.

And if the media wants to exploit OC incidents then so be it. They'll get over it and stop exploiting them when people stop being interested in the incidents which they will. If they do continue to report the incidents they'll be buried on page 10 or so or a simple link on the front page of their websites - a link most won't bother even clicking on eventually.

OC in Oklahoma will have its share of birthing pains but we'll get thru it and in 3 or 4 years we may even get constitutional carry.

FWIW though I don't think the number of folks who choose to OC will amount to a hill of beans. Those that get noticed and generate a man with gun call will deal with it. Law enforcement will show up and card 'em. End of story. Will there be some a'holes who give Leo's grief - probably a few times. Will there be Leo's that give OC'rs grief - probably a few times.

Eventually the new will wear off and OC will be no less the norm for those that choose it as CC is now for those that CC and will continue to do so.

OC is not the end of the world for those that choose to go armed with a firearm anymore than it was when CC became legal back in '95. How long did it take for the hysteria to wear off then?

Well said! And with that out of the way, what are you doing bringing in such thought-out posts around here??

Anyone who openly carries deserves the negative attention it will draw... I can appreciate that I don't have to worry about printing/flashing/accidentally showing my carry weapon, but I can't wait to just watch those "Duke's" out there... Walking around like self proclaimed bad@sses... Feeling all tough, oblivious they've just become the first target. I can't wait to watch.

How are those conversions coming along, Tony?
